And talkers… How many thinkers died without self promoting their ideas ? How many doers didn’t have the ressources to execute their ideas ?

Yep 90% power chords and the sound on Nevermind was in part due to Butch Vig. It’s simple but at the time quite unheard : bit of compression a lot of overdub, maybe a little flange/chorus but it was quite minimal compared to heavy metal, guitar heroes of the time and really different from the punk bands.

From their FAQ : « Hey doesn’t support IMAP or POP ». Time to write a blog post about how to easily switch from Hey to another mail provider

Some people call it imperialism, but for me US is more like an hegemon, a center which can impose its cultural norms to its periphery. But some people in France like to think that’s France is a US colony. I’m fine with that, because if it’s the case, french people are treated way better than the inhabitants of former french colonies.

Back in the days I’ve discovered NetworkX and Gephi in a Coursera course and was really surprised about how simple it managed to represent visually such a hard problem (I’ve never been able to find this course again it started with Erdos number that’s the only thing I remember)

I’m surprised that Knuth’s book isn’t in the top 5 and I’m very surprised to see Descarte’s meditation as even in France no one longer reads this ( must be related to the various posts about meditation on HN imho ) and Franck ( not Brian ) Herbert wrote Dune. I don’t trust this post and indeed I don’t trust anything published on the Internet after Llms went mainstream.

I actually did love Facebook and had success with ads in the past but there were so much redesigns in the ad manager that I can’t use it anymore

From the article : "Launched as a Republican digital consulting firm by Zac Moffatt, a digital director for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, Targeted Victory ... The firm is one of the biggest recipients of Republican campaign spending, earning more than $237 million in 2020, according to data compiled by OpenSecrets. Its biggest payments came from national GOP congressional committees and America First Action, a pro-Trump super PAC."

* Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a new requirement of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), ... It will require banks to perform additional checks when consumers make payments to confirm their identity. To do this, banks may ask for a combination of two forms of identification at checkout. Examples include: Something they know (such as a password or PIN).*

This is because of an European directive PSD-2 [0] which requires "strong authentification" in addition to the sms code. In the case of this bank you have to download an app and use it with your fingerprint or FaceId. If you don't want to use a smartphone app or doesn't have one you'll have to type your bank account password.

I do like dollar vars, because I know immediately when it's a variable and don't have to rely on syntax highlighting.

It's disheartening to see your content put in some kind of content farm by a bot. While I miss RSS, I'll never put a feed online again because of SEO dumbasses.
