Unfortunately GPT-4 and even other coding co-pilots like Phind kinda suck at anything beyond "noob tier" / beginner level questions. In fact it has gotten so bad that I ended up Open AI subscription.

It falls apart at anything with complexity, and I feel that just taking out a sheet of printer paper or going to the whiteboard is always far more effective than trying to get GPT to come up with something that at the bare minimum has no errors.

tbf maybe my analogy is wrong but I see there are various players like nvidia and open ai (shovels), vector db and other "infra" type startups (laundromats), and everyone else who is building apps in this ecosystem (miners).

The miners keep coming and going because most of their apps either fall way short of actual enterprise value/expectations, or can be easily incorporated into the big players.

Who exactly benefited during the gold rushes of the 1850s? I think it was everyone else but the miners. Did some miners make a fortune? Sure, but what remains of their legacy today is the foundations laid by the shovel makers and laundromats that allowed california to blossom.

So again forgive my ignorance here. I formerly worked at a unicorn startup that exited some time ago, so I've not worked at FANG or something huge like that, but definitely at a company that needed to pump out tons of features fast for both internal stakeholders and external users.

For user facing stuff we eventually developed a design system so fair enough, don't need retool or something there.

For internal facing stuff, before our design system was built, we'd literally just use mui (or bootstrap, or even bare bones) and react and put together whatever tool Sales/support/etc. needed and it would be live in like a couple hours max. I could access any streams or databases easily, and put a simple UI around whatever. Things like a need to load up customer information from sfdc instance A and cross reference it against data in live customer db, and call out any data (like phone/email,etc.) that didn't line up.

Wouldn't it be easier for a full stack engineer to just code it? Or am I missing something? I mean drag and drop + set up interactions + pull from database + write to database + other things via a UI seems more time consuming than just writing 100-200 lines of code.

How do I get access to my customer database in this tool and salesforce instance? What if I need to check a user's account information via our account service to see if they have access to some additional paid features? Would I even want to connect a live data store to this kind of tool?

Sorry if I'm rambling, I am just confused if this is a valid use case or not. Or is it just to make basic forms?

My theory is that apple is trying to market to Asians (Indians and Chinese especially) where the culture is not individualistic. I’m Asian myself and it’s noticeable in our cultures at a high level. It’s all conformity and stay in your lane! type of mentality.

I miss the 90s and early 2000s when American companies made products for Americans. They extruded individuality and people all over the world did look up to that level of coolness. Now it’s all just hues of gray and boring.

Maybe this is crazy but what helped me is to just accept everything is not real except what I perceive right now. Don’t take this the wrong way but you for example are just a construct that happened to ask this question and I pondered upon it. Similarly I might be the same for you.

I find that liberating because then it means whether or not it’s real it just is my present situation. I just need to get through this “existence” because who knows what comes next or before. It’s all unknown and that’s kind of cool.

AI reminds me of the scenes from Starship Troopers where the computer explains some information. I know that was a fascist society, but it was basically brainwashing the population in some ways.

Honestly I’m not a fan of either things. I think only knowledge is freedom, and the key there is freedom to search for knowledge not just take in whatever and move on.

Unfortunately 90% of people are lazy af so the best thing we the 10% can do is just see everyone as customers. They don’t share my ideals on society or lifestyle or anything. I enjoy death metal because it is aggressive and brutal. It also spans everything from just good ol' vengeance music to literally galactic conquest.

Whatever the case, this kind of music helps me CRUSH the problem at hand. When nothing seems to be working, headbang for a little bit or make a solo mosh pit in my office, and then get back to DESTROYING the problem.
