I've been trying to find a good, portable impact printer for ages that has relatively easy to source paper.

In a dream-scenario, I'd be able to cut A4 or 8.5x11 in half vertically and use that (or any other size) with some sort of rubberized feeder.

When you get around to it, for the third part, watch The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. Its a recut of the third part that improves on the pacing of the original cut.

Its a fantastic trilogy. If you become a super-fan, there's also a complete chronological cut that is ~10hrs. :)

I love yabai. I don't do anything fancy with it, but I found that its one of the few twms for MacOS that can do three up on the left with a large window on the right.

I also love that it isn't locked into auto-balancing windows. For me, I don't want my three-up to be the same size.

Might be a little slower than the estimate they're calculating. I timed myself at nine minutes, but others were faster than me. You should time it, though.

I wouldn't worry about the time so much as the comprehension and retention.

it’s crazy that we need to jump through hoops. these providers should allow an opt out for specific devices or at least the ability to apply context.

I've considered getting a spotify family account, using separate accounts for major genres and one for browsing. I have a browsing profile for Netflix so I can freely explore without messing up the suggestions.

For me, I listen to a lot of 40s, 50 - 60s lounge / exotica, early to mid 90s hip hop, 80s metal, and the standard indie stuff... then I have a bunch of chillwave and synthwave stuff that throws another wrench in the mix. The daily mixes I get are a total mess, much like yours.

The genre-specific mixes they make are pretty decent, but discovery is low.

there are a handful of neat mods. For color and better waterproofing, you can tint mineral oil with an oil based dye [1] and have any color you want.

With my own, I 'turned off' the beeping by applying a little electrical tape to the rear cover.

I also have a NATO strap, but there isn't anything fancy there.

I got this from samyk, actually. I wouldn't use iconic lyrics like this and you don't have to use a full line or even a natural ending. You don't even have to use lyrics from a band you particularly enjoy -- just something longer and easier to remember.

lyrics with spaces work well. e.g. 'God only knows what I'd be without you'

It would be fantastic to have something that is basically a half-sized palm pilot (say, 4" tall, 2" wide), eink/memory lcd, and the ability to rotate (not automatically.) There's probably a digital price tag that could work for the screen.

When I was using my Pebbles more often, it was great to be out and never check my phone for anything. Back in the day we could have set responses -- but as the years go on, we lose some functionality. The Rebble project will probably fix this one day.

It's been suggested below, but Github Pages is a total breeze. Find a theme you like, clone the repo, add your domain (and set that stuff up) and get writing.

If you go with Jekyll, it's really nice to work with. I decided to go with GHP over hosting myself in case I ever get super famous, which will most likely never happen.

Ultimately, its easy enough that you can get writing right away. If you decide that the software isn't enough, it'll be a breeze to move somewhere else since its all markdown.

I really wish they'd bring these in for Google Sheets, too. There are times where I want to sex up a sheet but don't want to bring in external images.

If you read the book, skip the forward. It gives away a lot of details about the rest of the book. Nothing major, but there are a few notes that I wish I hadn't known ahead of time.

The forward is nice, but I think it is better to read after you've completed the collection.

The location of the planes is really convenient, too.

I've always hated the ferries anyway, but now that I've seen the light of Harbour Air, there's no going back.

These flights are awesome! I had to go to the island earlier this year and wanted to avoid the ferries at all costs.

Like you said, that region is goosebump gorgeous. The flights are fairly cheap, too, all things considered.

with my catchall, I use one address per site. If they sell it off or whatever, I block the old one, update it on the site (e.g. hn2@blah.net)

They're all tucked away in your password manager anyway, so there isn't any effort or tracking needed.

like Hamuko said, there are domains like .party, etc that are cheap. However, some sites won't take them. My main junk account is a wildcard .party domain. It'll work with mosts sites, but the odd one won't take them. I ended up registering a .com that goes to the same inbox to get around these.

I've got one domain with freenom. You have to manually renew it every year, but otherwise it's fine for totally useless projects.

For anything with even the smallest bit of value, a cheap tld like .party can be had for a decade for around $20.

for me, wp.com was being blocked.

This is great, but I wish it were clearer that we had to apply with a linkedin URL before actually getting to test the thing out.

Further to this, a catch-all domain for signing up to sites is so handy. I use sitename@domain.com. I've only had one or two spam emails since, but all I do is change it on that site (sitename1@domain.com) and blacklist the burned one.

There's no reason not to own a domain for your email these days.

Letter writing / penpal'ing is really magical -- specifically for the reasons you noted. Even with friends I speak with (digitally or in person) on a regular basis have plenty to talk about in a letter.

I hadn't purchased a stamp for years. Its remarkable that sending a letter domestically can be done for around a dollar.

I use a mix of pens. Often a Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen, Marvy Le Pen (almost felt-like), and also gel rollers from Muji (0.38, 0.5, 0.7).

Overall, the Le Pen is my favorite, but I notice an improvement in style and consistency with the fountain pen.

I think one of the main differences between 'the old days' and what we're taught now is that we're not raised to write from the shoulder, which can lead to extra strain and exhaustion. I'm still not great with this, but when I make a concerted effort to write like this, I find that my writing is far more consistent and effortless.

I started typing letters to people once this pandemic got going. I'm on a Selectric II and have a bunch of different typefaces.

The Selectric II is such a joy to type on. Unlike Hanks, I use corrective tape, though. He mashes 'x' through any typos.

I forgot how nice it is to get mail that isn't a bill or an ad.

I pay for IFTTT but mostly use it for controlling Hue bulbs via Google Assistant without any feedback from the device. That alone is well worth the cost (set the response to '¿'.)

On top of that, I've got RSS feeds for some subreddits I run that benefit from IFTTT. I also have some RSS feeds automatically go to Pocket so I can read them on my Kobo.

IFTTT isn't perfect... and I absolutely hate the interface, but for the simple tasks I need, it does them well. And that is easily worth two bucks per month.

I paid for 1 and 2, but switched to Barrier a few months back. It’s been great. Like the older version, it just works.
