Levine is easily the best Wall Street / finance columnist out there, glad to see he's made his way to HN. Which makes me wonder, is there anyone similar writing about the SV / tech world?

Ubuntu Edge 13 years ago

A few stats for the past hour (0900-1000 EDT, 23JUL):

$18,000 raised, $14,940 from Ubuntu Edge (18 handsets, 83% of total), 8 undisclosed donations

Translates to $432,000/day and $12,960,000 for the next 30 days.

Indeed, but the point is that with BI, they would be on the hook for those excess costs. Preventative medicine is cheaper and when the excess cost of an ER visit comes directly out of patients' pockets, they will be more diligent about prevention.

Good analogy is car maintenance. Most people are very diligent about oil changes because they (inherently, I would argue) recognize the cost structure.

I don't think OP's intent was to elicit a comparison of this young man's landing page with that of other established businesses, rather he chose a headline in order to bring attention (and HN upvotes) to Marek's request.

Looks like it is a whole new term rather than a pure update. The original was with Prof Grimson and Guttag from Fall '08, this one is just Prof Guttag from Spring '11. The biggest change is the addition of OCW Scholar (which means the course is designed with more of an online flow -- for 'independent learners').
