Me too, although I recognized his name because I read his book Black Holes and Time Warps: Einstein's Outrageous Legacy. That was over 20 years ago.

Electricity derived from solar panels and stored in batteries is neither free from cost nor free from carbon emissions. The monetary cost and emission of carbon coincides with the manufacture of the solar panels and batteries rather than the generation and storage of the energy unlike many other technologies.

The costs and emissions of solar-derived electricity may be lower than alternatives but they are most certainly not free.

I was so intrigued with the drawings that I started to look for additional patent drawings to add. My favorite new ones are the Gameboy patent drawing and 3 drawings related to Curta mechanical calculators.

I developed my own vectorization and re-rasterization process that I believe offers a slight improvement in faithfulness to the original drawing (took a few tries to get the Curta ones right).

Have you considered the AeroFS (https://www.aerofs.com/pricing)? I have not used AeroFS, but it would be on my list to evaluate for your use case, especially if external storage is undesirable. Pricing seems in line with Dropbox for Business, although this does not take into account the cost of maintaining your own storage.

You are correct. I want to clarify that the failure process is electromigration, not electron migration. It is caused by electrons but it is ions in metal that migrate. Wikipedia has a good description: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromigration.

I design integrated circuits and one of the constraints in selecting the width of wires is to make sure that the maximum current density is below the electromigration threshold.

I am a circuit designer and SEM cross-sections are quite commonly used by transistor device designers during design and debug. They also appear in papers about transistor device design. A relevant conference is International Electron Devices Meeting and the related journal paper is IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices. Unfortunately, most of those papers are behind the IEEE paywall.

Even though I design circuits using these devices, I still find the SEMs mindblowing.

When I went to grad school in engineering and became a TA, I found out there was a guideline for the undergraduate class average from the department. It was actually presented as the historical class average for informational purposes, with standard deviation, but the implication was that a professor's class average should be close the the historical average.

It sounds like the course marking scheme is broken.

In my engineering courses (both as a student and TA), assignments were worth very little, or sometimes not handed in at all, and were instead a tool for the student to learn the coursework. Marks were largely based on quizzes, midterms and finals (usually worth 80 to 90% of the course grade). It's not an ideal solution, as there are skills that cannot be tested in these conditions, but it eliminates the need to spend time on detecting cheating on assignments. Of course, it is important to prevent cheating during examinations, but this is a much more tractable problem.

If p is bimodal, then p = 2*p1 is not possible. Either p = 0 or p = 1. The values in between do not occur.

Then the only thing to quibble over is G. But if you believe p = 1 for a company, what's the point of quibbling over G?

It is amazing to me how many critical aspects of an open democracy are dependent on rules of house/congress/parliament.

This sort of unrelated/obfuscated clause insertion and the 60-vote requirement to defeat a filibuster are two prime examples.

Interesting that the system switches between two distinct devices at different power/performance points. There is probably some redundancy here, in that the higher power/performance (discrete) GPU likely includes all the elements of the simplified (integrated Intel) GPU. So the discrete GPU could be designed in a way that dials down the power and performance to match the discrete CPU. I know Intel and AMD CPUs include voltage/frequency/power-gating dials for selecting a power/performance point, but I don't know if GPU engines make heavy use of these features.

The simplified GPU being integrated with the CPU probably saves some power from not having to go off-chip to talk to each other. This power savings might be what justifies having two distinct devices.
