Maybe I'm missing something, but it feels like the economics of software are shifting. If companies can afford software tailored to their exact workflows for less than the annual cost of a single engineer, what does the moat of a traditional SaaS company become?

If there's any hope for AI sovereignty and equality, we would have to either make expensive models cheap to run or make cheaper models do less work.

Making the latter happen involves either reformulating work in ways less intelligent LLMs can work better with. Or condensing intelligence into smaller models.

I'm starting to think It might be a good idea to stay with American models, by virtue of them feeling so threatened they give out more and more free perks.

The cost doesn't really matter as much as the payment methods, especially at that price point.

This is indeed part of the something i've been internalising for quite a while. I've always felt i needed to improve my social circle by finding/making one, but i realised it's better to just have hobbies and skill sets that make me useful and relevant to a certain niche and then my circle would naturally arise from there.

It's also why i'm trying to participate more here, even with the crippling imposters syndrome that prevents me from contributing anything...It's so difficult actively participating in a group that seemingly got cultivated from a culture somewhat alien to my own upbringing.

I've honestly not ever considered Ghost in the shell to be under the cyberpunk genre. It's too clean and the characters too ingrained in the working of the system. And the system "works", it's not a sanitised depiction, gits society feels much like our own with a detailed techno-realism it's a society still at the transitional point to something more radical; exemplified by humans still doing very manual things - take for example that classic scene from the 1995 film, where the man uses multiple fingers to extremely fast into a terminal, this would seem impressive but pales in comparison to a direct cyberbrain connection, they still have terminals because this is a world still in transition. I find it somewhat interesting only 1/5th of the prompt has to do with the actual problem, rest is just cajoling the harness into shape.

I really do think matter wants to be sentient, being sentient is natural. Why i think that exactly, i'm not sure why, it just seems intuitive.

I would also say good tools have better "physics" they've got some coherent internal model that is somewhat easy to intuit about.

Sol and 5.5 pro are in parity at $5 input / $30 output. What I'm inferring from this is that: - model weight size didn't change, and this is mostly a result of better model architecture and scaled up RL - better hardware utilization and and they're making better margins OR - worse hardware utilization and they're okay with digging into their margins.

Yeah i feel separating compute from data is one of the best directions the industry can move towards, it means less lock-in, more flexibility and user agency as well as more personal compute utilisation (increasingly important with the cloud compute pricing-in the RAM supply crisis).
