Indeed, the whole "you're not buying a game, you are buying a license to the game" is a bad argument that is used to justify not allowing resale. The only party it benefits are the companies, not the people.

It also kills the joy of discovering old games in the attic when you're moving and sitting down and playing a bit, or passing on games to your kids.

It's funny seeing this article pop up as I've been exploring getting back into the handhelds as well recently. My 9-year old has his old Gameboy Advance SP (those flippy things) but finding games for the GBA is just terribly expensive if you want physical. We're trying to avoid emulating or getting those 500-in-1 types of cartridges for ADHD reasons, but he wants to play Pacman which costs as much as a secondhand PS5 around here.

The PSP sits nicely in the middle of timing, or at least it feels like that. Way more modern, easier to find games for, and way cheaper as well (more stock). It feels like the PSP was one of the last handhelds that you could use offline, without having to mod or hack it.

Seeing things being broken but not being fixed is a real source of frustration. The tricky thing in my experience has been figuring out which are issues that nobody bothered to fix and which are issues that seem simple but require huge changes to fix.

Oh exactly, it's great to have a single cable / charger for many different items in the household. The biggest downside I see with USB-C in this case is that the cables and chargers get quite expensive if you want to be able to just grab one and charge stuff, without having to worry about wattage etc.

All in all a big improvement, with some future improvements left to make. Fingers crossed for a more sane USB-D in twenty years.

Banning corporate ownership of housing wouldn't solve all problems but it would be a good start. Locals in general are not able to buy up as much of the housing, but it would still be something to look at.

Hotels suck as they cut corners to the point where an article posted here complaining about the lack of bathroom doors in hotels.

The great thing about hotels is that they can be planned for and zoned correctly for. Even so, I've had a hotel go up 100m from my apartment and had to invest in blackout blinds since they chose for a modern design with glass all over (and the lights are bright at night).

The biggest problem here in Barcelona is that most airbnbs / short term rentals are companies buying housing as an investment and so are stealing the opportunity from actual people and families trying to live.

I'm quite curious to hear what the cause was once it's fixed but on the other hand this incident keeps adding to the feeling that more and more big services are failing more regularely.

The one before that was in 2008, so a good 16 years between the two. I.e. not something people ever have to think about.

That sounds like a great way to limit the procrastination for many things while at the same time include a bit of mindfulness (i.e. sitting still with your thoughts).

I spent my last 5 euros on a sandwich and a croissant to eat on the walk home. All in all a pretty decent experience.

That was a fun 10 hours or so that we were without power in most of Barcelona. Some barrios had ~some~ power but most of us were without.

The one thing that surprised me is how quickly rumors started about power being out in Portugal (true), France (true to an extent), Belgium (false), and the UK (false). Walking back home from work you heard the names of Trump being mentioned as well.

It's a bit scary to personally experience how quickly people can start panicking. On the other hand the bars that had some power had a great afternoon with tons of beer being served before it got too warm :-)

Do you run into issues where they block your scraping attempts or are they quite relaxed on this? Circumventing the bot detection often forces us to go for Puppeteer so we can fully control the browser, but that carries quite a heavy cost compared to using a simple HTTP requester.

Do you have a technical writeup of your scraping approach? I'd love to read more about the challenges and solutions for them.

That does seem like it would make sense if you're working on the same product, in the same team, or in the same location. My team consists of 6 developers, 4 of which in one city, 1 in another city, and the last one in another country. Every time we 4 go to the office we're still in remote calls and meetings, but this time in an open office with no noise cancellation.

The other people in the office are either sales people constantly in calls, or other teams with their own issues.

I'm currently in the process of resigning from my current company after only a year because they're forcing us to come in twice a week, coming from only once a week.

The reason given is: "it's important to have social contacts with the other colleagues that are not in your team". If people thought that was important then they'd go to the office more often than required. It seems like they don't, so they won't.

It's frustrating and a bit mad to see management push these decisions when there's no valid reason being given.

One app I haven't seen mentioned here yet is Paprika (https://www.paprikaapp.com/). I use it as a general storage for recipes that I tried and like as it's really easy to strip the entire lifestories you find in online recipes. It has a shopping list functionality as well as week planning.

The only downside is that it's quite pricey as you have to buy it seperately on each platform (ios, android, mac, pc). Personally I just have the ios version that works on both phone and tablet and use a browser bookmarklet to import recipes from my pc.

As a relatively new user to Notion this seems quite interesting. I never was one for blogging (because I have nothing to talk about) but ever since summarizing videos and articles in Notion I find that I'm building a small body of derived work that might interest people.

How easy is it to have linked database entries shown on the blog as well? I currently have my own database with both private and less private entries and would prefer to not share everything, either by linking from the blog db to my own db, or by filtering.

Wrt the SW job, it might be more difficult in the beginning as it takes some focus to understand the system and how your work fits into the bigger whole. After a time it becomes easier to understand and to jump in, jump out.

Of course this completely depends on the company and job type. My job is very non-demanding and I can easily coast by on just 3-4 hours of work a day. Other people are in a different situation.

It might go either way to be honest. I'm currently living and working Spain as a SWE (immigrant) for a US company and the amount of useless meetings there is insane. That makes it quite hard to work on-the-go as half of the day is spent in meetings (most of them with camera turned on).
