Are you hoping for it to remain the same or are you hoping for an increase compared to usd? Asking because you mentioned stored. What if you could buy shares with btc? If value just sits there and is not used in a productive way - things companies try to do - you're subscribing to a very static world view. It might make sense if you are close to retirement - where people usually move to stable assets - but generally you want your assets to be used in a productive way rather than hidden away.
This is something very Japanese, they like to patent everything to the extent I think it's something cultural. My company (Japanese owned) made us sign something on the lines that the company can patent inventions of employee without his consent.
I bought some stuff from auctions houses that buy returned stuff but what you get is very random, either as new stuff or complete junk. Coupled with the fact that there is no return policy on these returned items, non transparent pricing (they sometimes charge VAT and various taxes) and shipping is overpriced it's best to stay away unless you can go in person and check the items before you bid.
In any case the return ratio is priced in and we're very likely paying higher prices for new items to account for these returns.
Can understand why some primitive people were not big fans of gay people, they would not 'multiply' the tribe. I wouldn't describe it as arbitrary, after all it was compiled by 'learned' scribes but more like based upon the needs of those times.
Not religious but I remember Jesus's words (lol):
Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I agree with this, it all depends on your motivations of your acts. If you give to be seen you're just seeking attention but of course for the receiver it's not less valuable.
It seems he gives some money to make more money (views), is that something altruistic? I don't think so.

My question is: who is the intended customer?
As a software dev who is confident with coding I would not use this because I don't want to lock myself to a platform (vendor lock-in). Someone who is a rookie might use it but it seems that it requires more than basic knowleadge (e.g. REST, SQL, auth, etc).
For me it's a good place to follow the latest developments happening now in AI
Google is just the middle man here, creators can turn off ads on videos if they want to but a lot of them need revenue or at least want revenue so the question becomes what's the best way to reward creators for their work? There are multiple models that I can think of but there will be much less people on yt if it would cost even a few cents. Once you're used to free stuff, even with bloated content as now it takes a while to get used to paying. The current model works because 3rd parties pay and not the actual consumer.
I'm curious how does yt share profit with creators for views from paying subscribers.
London has a number of red telephone kiosks turned into libraries. I belive they are administered by local groups which move the stock around once in a while but I would suspect it's difficult to manage this online since there is no check-in/check-out process.
Excuse my ignorance but what are the advantages of using such a system over the standard build systems of various languages (vite, gradle, maven, pip, etc)?
This is like: time-out until we catch-up with you. Once the genie is out of the bottle, you can stop it. Let the race continue.
I don't see why at least they don't keep it in read only mode for longer - e.g. a few years - until the content becomes obsolete. This will alienate many Internet dwellers and make the Amazon brand sink even lower. Surely it doesn't cost them much.
Have you considered cashing out? Meaning selling the house so you get you equity back. Maybe you can use that to move somewhere more affordable and start over.
I’d read PG’s essays (someone compiled them in a pdf on github) and learn about startups. Long term you don’t want to sell your soul to corporations.
Continue to learn and try to get some contract work meanwhile. In security this is very common: audits, penetration testing, etc.
Good luck!
Quite thorough report, some points that stand out from the summary:
SABIS was TSB’s principal outsourced provider
SABIS relied extensively on 85 third parties (TSB’s fourth parties) to deliver the systems required for the migration and the operation of the platform, which required it to act as a service aggregator.
It amazes me the sheer complexity of a retail bank software system and I suspect most of it is due to legacy systems, legal requirements and lack of regular spring cleaning.
Always invest in an industry index and not in individual companies as you can't pick the winners. This is investment 101. EVs will become mainstream eventually but the likelihood of Tesla to dominate the market is low. Their only possible redeeming strategy is building a robot but it can also backfire (see Meta).
I don't see what Indeed and Autonation have to do with you being scammed. Autonation looks like a legit company that the scammers impersonated.
There are numerous giveaways and red flags in the process, the major one is them using a non-corporate e-mail address. I interviewed with dozens of companies, that never happens. Also there are many spelling and grammatical errors, no serious company will present itself like that.
A basic search reveals that Marc Cannon is EVP Chief CX Officer at Autonation. Do you think he is involved is hiring engineers so early in the process?
One round of interviews to get hirred? Sorry, that never happens either (unless you work in crypto).
Asked to pay for equipement in order to start work? Again, that never happens. Also, you transfered money to Destin Ellis? Why is that not a company? Where is the invoice? Why does the equipement go to them and not to you?
Also, the offer letter is signed by Manfred Eissner which is a Brand Designer (on a simple search on LinkedIn) and not the CTO of the company. Not to mention that CTO's are not botherer with these offer letters usually, it's the head of HR who deals with these.
Also, an offer letter is much longer and detailed.
Some basic reasearch would have stopped you from getting scammed. I'm sorry that this is not what you want to hear, but scammers usually throw the bait and the most desperate buy it. What you show above is that you are not experienced with the workings of a corporation and were quite desperate to get hired. Try to recover the money by contacting the bank and after that maybe it's a good time to reflect why you fell for this trap and how to improve your reasoning in the future.
I used to support them until they jumped on the diversity bandwagon. I believe humanity has bigger issues to tackle right now.
The ftx involvement signals to me that they did not do their due diligence, supposedly their main job. A 15M estate in Oxford? Looks to me like their decision criteria is not aligned with what they preach.
I have a dormant account to which I lost access because I've changed my phone number. When I try to reset my password they insist on sending me a sms even if I enter my answers to the security questions. Unable to contact them via chat unless I'm logged in.
The only option I have is to call them on a US number. I tried that and it went through an automated bot. Sorry PayPal, good luck with business
What Curtis argues in his documentaries - that politicians now are mere birocrats at the mercy of the markets - seems truer than ever.
There is no place for decisions that do not sit well with the markets, unless you live in a dictatorship - Russia, China, etc.
That means all creative or unproven political decisions will be punished by the markets leaving us in a rather stagnant world ruled by market forces.
Being recently in the market for car tires I say that some standardisation benefits the consumer and reduces waste. There are so many sizes of tires that you have limited choice on purchase and resell. Unfortunately there is no incentive for companies to standardize because they loose revenue. Apple can make a custom port and sell an overpriced cable and adapter for it. Maybe it's slightly better but is it that much better to worth keeping it?
There should be a work group that takes more of these decisions with the aim to reduce waste says the dreamer in my but the circumspect thinks otherwise. If Apple invents a revolutionary port what happens next? Do they need EU approval?
This sounds unexpectedly familiar to the experience of refurbishing my flat. Goal post moving, postponements, delays, pay in advance and job unfinished, etc.
My take is that you were too flexible and the agency took advantage of that to extract as much as possible. Also the payment strategy (per hour) is not in your favour. For these clear projects (same in constructions) it's best to arrange a fixed price. That of course does not solve all problems because they will cut corners and deliver average work but at least you can hold them accountable and refuse further payments until a certain milestone is completed.
Thank you for the detailed article and good luck with your projects.
Disagree, companies cannot focus on too many things at once and get them right. Better for them to focus on logistics, fleet, cargo, etc than investing in data centers. Staying in your area of competence usually yields the best results. Btw, as I was using FedEx for an international shipment, their IT services are abysmal and could use a shake-up.
While most of the things here are desirable to a user I imagine the cost of compliance would be enormous for Apple, not to mention that it will take years.
Even if they do comply, I wouldn't imagine them enabling these for NON-EU countries. They might do a fork and provide slow updates to EU customers or some other way of punishing the users.
On the side of the EU, the legislation is a bit too targeted causing a bit of concern to wheather they found the right balance between user rights and stifling private companies.
Some of EU legislation has had disastrous side effects like GDPR, this might as well bring unexpected consequences.
Good idea but very poor experience filling the form on Android/Chrome. On Firefox worked slightly better.
Would be interesting to know how the ownerships of a project gets mediated as this is always a contentious issue.
1. Remove porn from your life. Use opendns to block websites and try to practice abstinence. It will take months/years but doable. Check Universal Man yt channel: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC6gyVlwXwtqkn4KLjx3nDHg
2. Envy and other mind traps can be cured with having the right mindset. Look into stoicism
3. It's all about building habits and routine. You are your habits
Although controversial, Jordan Peterson's advice helped me when I was in a similar stage as you.
Look to form relationships and focus on something meaningful, the bad habits will disappear as you won't have time for them. Good luck
Congrats to the author, a good observation. I was just talking with one of my friends who recently became a father about how quickly new moms bond and form friendships due to the common context.
But similar interests can make the bond stronger and deeper I'd argue.
As I mentioned, there are many similar mini dishwashers or table top dishwashers in the 300e price bracket.
