I’ve learned so much from reading HN over the years. I think it’s fair to say that without this community, Brice wouldn’t be what it is today.

I recently read “Good Inside” by Dr. Becky Kennedy, a parenting book that completely changed how I think about this. She talks about how the most important parenting skill isn’t being perfect — it’s repair.

Love this book! Just read it. Must read for parents, IMO.

Well done! Just tested this out and it's great but some feedback:

I couldn't successfully trim my recording. I could get into "trim mode" but couldn't figure out how to do it. That's a really important feature to me and the UX needs a lot of work there.

A feature that I always use with Screen Studio is changing the speed of clips. For example, if I'm typing in the recording, I like to speed it up super fast.

Also, I like the Cursor size/preferences (size, hide when mouse isn't moving, etc)

A feature that is missing from SS is: I can't insert title cards or my own clips. I kinda wish it took video editing to the next level and allowed me to insert other clips or title cards.

I'm still not happy with Screen Studio's pricing change.

Yes, the site is very authentic but at first glance I was pretty confused. The animated cartoony camera followed by "only for mac" and "download" made me think this was an app, not a hardware camera.

I'd put a real photo of the camera in the hero section so people instantly grok that it's a real device.

Tina founder here, I see you're the founder of button down. I'm a huge fan of your service. I use it personally and was pleased to see that Casidoo is also using it!

Tina co-founder here. I agree that our data-layer detracts from the simplicity of a static site so I'll elaborate on why we made that decisions.

You're right, to render a static site you don't need a database. However, for a lot of CMS functionality, a database is required (or in our case a "Data Layer"). It's used for searching, sorting, and filtering content. In Smashing Magazine's case, they need to do these operations across 10's of thousands of Markdown files. This couldn't be done without our Data Layer and would result in rate limiting if they hit the GitHub API directly.

Also, since our Data Layer provides a GraphQL API, developers can do interesting things like pull their Markdown content into other applications and use server side rendering. We see it as the best of both worlds: you own your content in Git but you also get a headless CMS to query.

Semi-related: we're on the cusp of releasing some improvements that will make self-hosting Tina much better, so check back in a week or two if you're interested in that.

I don't see the issue here. They're solving a real problem for developers with their open-source solution and telling people about it.

This comment smells like gate keeping to me: "developers who work with frontend tech aren't REAL developers".

Personally, I know many developers who are doing great work with frontend technologies. Some with little experience, some with decades of experience, some self taught, and some with formal CS degrees.

Frontend is a great career path for those who enjoy it.

After seeing the demo, I was really stoked about this product and was ready to buy but then I was turned off from the recurring monthly price.

FWIW, if it were a 1-time price I would have paid probably $50 - $99 for that.
