I don’t see a contradiction here. If control is out of the hands of decision makers, that’s a supply chain risk . Were it not for that, the service is seen as critical to national security.

I dunno, safeguard seems like a weasel word here. It’s just reserving control to one party over another. It’s understandable why the DoD(W) wouldn’t like that.

Back when The Screen Savers was on ZDTV--and ZDTV existed for that matter--they used to host a chat room for the show that would appear at the bottom of the screen during live broadcasts, kindof like a ticker tape. You accessed the chat room by using a web browser that would turn every URL into a chat room. I don't remember if it was standalone browser or a plugin. I highly doubt it was a plugin but my memory fails me here.

The 'Accept' header should determine the response type, but content negotiation is something that few bother to implement. Webmachine does that for you, among other things like choosing the correct status code for your response.

HiFiBerry is a great DAC for the RPi. I am at this moment listening to Oneohtrix Point Never, streaming from my iPhone to my RPi via shariport, through their DAC, into an old JVC silver face receiver to some EPIs set to 16Ω.

This is the setup they are targeting with this distro. But Raspbian does just fine for the use case. Not sure what stripping it down further accomplishes unless they’re targeting an even smaller platform.

“Craft beer” as far as I can tell just means overhopped. There’s nothing crafty about it beside swindling people into overpaying for something that tastes like acetone smells. So I think this article was spot on by including it.

Like you alluded to, it’s mostly about finding, gathering, and organizing the political will to fund such projects. There are, I imagine, plenty of projects archived in some filing cabinets in the basement of some federal building somewhere that had its day in the legislature and didn’t make the cut. Super Express service between New York and Boston in 90 minutes, cutting through central Connecticut with no stops, carried by new EMU-driven rolling stock.

tl;dr: Not happening. Instead, Amtrak’s gonna straighten out a few kinks in the current track so the Acela service can get up to and maintain higher speeds south of New York and in eastern Connecticut. Not sure how they’re gonna add more capacity, if at all.
