Agree that tfa is clueless. However even second price auctions cannot explain the data they claim to see. Any ad exchange these days has data showing publisher revenue delta of far more than 4% for cookie-able browsers.

It's not just oba... much of the non-oba demand running through programmatic requires a "cookie" for frequency capping or just basic anti-fraud.

Disclosure: work in industry; am biased.

Let's nip this trend in the butt. Outside the organization in question we really have no idea what's going on and who is or is not responsible for a particular poor outcome. It's not fair to the individual - or to the real executives who fucked up - to call out one person in this way.

I've found this to be like serious sports in high school or college. When there are no choices to be made in your life, you do not make bad choices.

Usually you would throw in some radomization, ie, 5% of the time the barometer would tell you the opposite of what it really thinks you should do.

It's a bit like choosing your local credit union instead of BofA. Go Daddy is too big to fail but there is no Federal Reserve backing them up.

Brilliant for you, yes. But when does amazon begin to consider this a bug, not a feature? I worry for the day that some new feature is introduced in .azw files that will break legacy devices. Now that would be evil.

Tell me I'm not the first to see the irony of a page full of comments debating ntp, GPS and atomic clocks, while there are two interesting front page stories about the value of ambitious goals.

This is a classic arms race. Like states giving tax breaks to invent corporations to move. Just like baseball we are probably all better off with some rules.

The PA office is a bit of a glorified regional sales office. SAP Labs in Palo Alto however does a lot of interesting and original dev work. There are quite a few very good engineers there who would take real offense at this statement.
