You are absolutely right. Yes, Tesla did introduce a seismic shift into the automotive industry.

Their stock was an appreciation and acknowledgement of that? They were valued more than all of their ( major) competitors' market cap aggregated together at one point. Many argue that it still is overvalued.

The incident cited above is on the same slippery slope as the Nikola demo, just more nuanced. It is well worth a discourse.

A grim day. As a tech worker, my solidarity is entirely with the employees of Twitter.

The irony is that Twitter, more than any other social platform, helped create the aura around Elon, Tesla in particular. In some sense, Twitter was quintessential to what Elon is today.

Is surreal. If this had been anyone apart from Elon, they would have been ostracized.

I am saddened, but also a bit terrified since I see strong parallels between Elon, and... Other such figures. But Elon now owns a social media platform that "informs" upwards of a 500million users a month.

Also worth noting That ev platforms are now essentially closely engineering the power train and the battery systems to work and extract maximum juice ( similar to Apples battery/cpu control on the iPhone).

When the above is executed well, you get performance and range that are moats to car manufacturers, which reduces the incentive to partake in such efforts as well. ( Tesla, and of course the recent EGMP platform is an example of this. The latter powers 3 best selling cars in the US this year).

This to me sums it up very well. Yes,parts of me miss the things I could do earlier. But as with all things in life, is this change a net positive in terms of happiness? "It very likely will be" - has been my experience thus far. My child, still a toddler, continues to be a suprisingly reliable source of happiness and laughs, well into their 6th year. b) I had a fairly strong attachment to my wife/best friend as I do today too. However, pregnancy, and having a kid reduces your partner's influence on your happiness funnel. They are , for very good reason, less available during the first year of the child's growth.

I would thus highly emphasize on diversiyfing your sources of happiness ( with hobbies, men's night out etc) - otherwise, like I saw, there will be a quick fall in happiness levels in the initial few months.

Given the recent influx of EVs, some of these charts explain why certain brands seem to have launched them now.

Becoming the next smart TV platform is the real war here.

By becoming the go-to platform for smart tv apps, the winner gets the following advantages - rich access to search and voice data (which, by the Amazon playbook, is super valuable for originals) - hardware profits - ads related profits. My definition of ads are any apps/placements that are not organic. This includes actual ads for shows etc, but also placements in search results dedicated sections etc. - per transaction profits. This is the apple playbook. Take a 30% cut of every transaction. - Subscription profits from original apps - say roku originals or Apple tv+.

There is a lot going on here, and what we are seeing here as a deadlock is a stalemate due to clashes between Google and roku on many of the above issues.

This uses a visual representation to drive home the point that the time you have with your loved ones, especially parents is very very limited, and choices that you make to increase/decrease face time with them, have a pretty pronounced impact, for life.

Reddit currently supports many third party freemium clients ( Ala Twitter 2012). These third party apps offer a no ad experience too. Unsure how much revenue reddit shares with these apps though.

It helps with growth(more options for users to be on reddit) , but definitely hurts ad inventory, ad targeting insights etc.

I usually schedule these on my calendar as small self-contained chunks, scoped to 25 minutes (recursively break the next actionable step into it)

Pre ordered a model Y RWD around 15 months back. Have received two calls from sales reps to move or upgrade my order to Model Y AWD, and take the delivery ASAP.

Held off on both occasions due to these quality reasons.

The Tesla cars seem like an IOS update ( what they used t be) - better to sit back and wait to see what breaks, before doing it.

For me the most effective one has been following my breath. The principle there is that nothing can get more real than your breath right now. You are , only if you breathe. ( or atleast it resonates a ton with me ).

If thoughts come into my head I classify them into 2 - thoughts or feelings? Pleasant or unpleasant? and continue focussing on breathing. I do the above 15 mins everyday. This , for users of headspace, will probably be well known.

Had a severe stutter as a child. It wasn't until I started meditating about 4 years back, that my stutter no longer holds me back.

My experience here lines up with the experience cited by others on the thread.

To phrase what seems to have worked for me in a more systematic manner -

A. Micro level - deep breathing helps. At the end of a long day, when I am fatigued, my words get slower and harder to get out clean. I take a deep breath or a series of breaths and this usually helps.

B. Marco - meditation really has helped me deal with my own thoughts and insecurities ( which unfortunately stuttering tends to push more of), and find a core of Calm. The more I reconnect with that sense of calm, the more I feel like stuttering is within my control, and the more it helps.

Wouldn't wish it upon anyone - many days ended with me cursing and hating myself. Many days I would blame my father for it (easier to blame him, as a young boy) for not doing anything about it.

I would certainly hug every little kid I see with a stutter. Not just for what they are going through then, but to just let them know that "it will be OK".

Well O 1 visas not dual intent though. In order to actually obtain permanent residency, you would still need to move to a h1b.

It's fascinating how Ring's business model benefits from local crime prevalence, which in turn might lead people to invest in home security.

This might not be a direct answer , but reading " Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29369213-peak" certainly helped nail down in my head that learning is a skill, and the only barrier to learning (and becoming an expert) and doing something is yourself and time (it explicitly says that you can't hope to be an expert by mindlessly repeating it or going through the motions though) . The book also lays down effective lessons for how to optimize for learning the skill fast (specifically with short iterational feedback loops) and effectively.

The book is fairly well researched, draws from credible academic sources and breaks down the "genius" construct fairly well. It left me knowing that any new subject or skill is approachable to anyone and everyone, as long as they are prepared to put in the time, and effort and an effective feedback loop in there.
