Neat. Would be interesting to see a more detailed syllabus of what is covered when. Also is the 25% rake net or gross? It is two years full time (well 1.5 if you consider internship) so I don't think it is really fair to compare it to a 3 month program.

At my local university doing 3x semesters of just CS classes leaves you 1 course short of the required CS courses for a degree. Mind you I'm not including the math requirements. But on the other hand this is probably more intensive and with a better student/teacher ratio arguably you will be learning stuff quicker. Not to say they are equivalent... but I'm not sure its fair to write it off as being "code monkey" school.

Not a fan of the location choice though. I get that SF has a lot of really good networking opportunities but for a two year program it is crazy expensive. The difference in rent compared to where I live makes this more expensive than attending university. If I was to get an apartment with equivalent square footage to what I have now the cost of this would actually be pretty close to doing a 4 year degree. That's before factoring in the 25% rake. Mind you I'm in a relatively inexpensive Canadian city.

My guess is price discrimination. They are feeling the heat from Xiaomi et al.

Price the S6 more reasonably and place the S6 Edge to capture the higher end market where their premium brand is more valuable.

Javascript is ~2x more popular at the start but is ~8x more popular now.

The absolute decline looks similar but given javascript's higher starting value the relative decline is much less.

What happens if it does not get confirmed. Do you debit the account by an equivalent amount or eat it?

If you are in Canada that isn't really true. It is extremely easy to open a USD denominated bank account and credit card. Couple banks have Euro accounts as well.

Unless you're buying large amounts you're probably going to pay 2+% just to get the bitcoins.

Its worth noting that with lead acid most people target a ~50% depth of discharge as batteries start getting damaged when they are cycled deep. (Yes even deep cycle batteries.)

Now that also provides some additional redundancy so it's not like the other 50% is entirely useless.

~30kwh is the national average for daily use. 120 is crazy high unless your blasting an AC or heat all day. At 12 cents a kilowatt hour that's a $438 monthly bill.

Even 30 is pretty damn high. For someone living off grid with a purpose built/renovated structure ~5kwh a day gives you quite a lot to work with.

Have ear buds from Xiaomi and been very impressed with quality for price. I'm somewhat sceptical they are going to put a $400 dollar cpu and 16gb of ram into a laptop that costs under $500 dollars though. Maybe they are getting a good price on the haswells now that broadwell production is ramping up.

You would think if you're using the live secret code server side it would reject charge tokens coming from the public test code.

edit: To be clear I haven't tested this and don't have time today with xmas and such.

You may want to consider condensing/minifiying your JS/CSS and using a CDN for images. After 10 minutes the website still isn't loaded and there are a huge number of blocking image transfers that are going very very slowly.

12+MB for a landing page is also probably a little on the heavy side of things.

I'm surprised one of the smaller ride share companies hasn't pivoted into licensing/partnering with municipal governments. Share revenue and let them control the processes for accepting drivers and regulating them. Tada you're partnered with a entity that can legislate your competition out of business.

Does it though?

There is very little lockin with Uber at the consumer level, so goodwill is incredibly important for the company. At some point if they keep this shit up they are going to come up snake eyes and something will go viral.

Beyond that they are more or less loading the gun for anyone who wants to make the argument that the industry needs regulation.

If I was an investor I'd want heads rolling.

TBH I don't really understand the arguments in the article I was trying to be as charitable as possible to the general premise.

Also I think I am wrong. Stock options are public information so it should be incorporated into the price of the stock any ways. Theoretically at least.

In both cases the money transferred to shareholders is the same. There is only a distinction when management has options.

Think of it this way. Consider a company has NPV of 10 dollars with 10 outstanding shares priced at $1 and 5 dollars in the bank. If it pays out 5 dollars in dividends the NPV is now $5 and there are still 10 outstanding shares worth 50 cents each.

If the same company buys stock back with that 5 dollars the NPV also falls to $5. However there are only 5 outstanding shares now so each share is still worth 1 dollar.

Now if management doesn't have options, story over no one is any better or worse off assuming market efficiency.

However if management has options to buy 5 shares at say, 25 cents, they gain significantly more because the total number of shares has been diluted but the NPV is still the same.

In the first scenario total shares increase to 15 and their value decreases to ~33 cents. Transferring 1.6 dollars to management.

In the second scenario total shares increases to 10 and their value decreases to 50 cents. Transferring 2.5 dollars to management.

Its not very well worded but he isn't wrong per say.

Dividends theoretically should cause a fall in share prices the day after. Most aren't nearly large enough to be noticeable but for example in 2004 Microsoft issued a $3 dollar dividend and the share price fell by roughly that amount.

Conversely, stock repurchases you have money out but you also have a concentration of the stock.

In both cases money goes out of the company reducing its NPV but with stock repurchases the concentration and corresponding increase in EPS should offset the loss of money assuming the stock is priced correctly.

So there is an incentive for anyone with options to not pay dividends and save that money for stock repurchases. As well although theoretically buybacks shouldn't increase prices they do tend to as its seen as sign that management thinks the price is undervalued.

Does anyone have any reasonable explanation for the concentration of strikes in North Dakota/Montana? I'm not American but I'm under the impression that both states are pretty much a whole lot of nothing, moreso back then. Only thing I can think of is ICBMs going up over the pole and launch sites are concentrated there?

In 95% of cases I wouldn't have even posted this. The company is huge though and they do a lot of transactions like ALOT ALOT. The amount of information that could be exposed is a lot higher than your average website.

My problem is really the company should probably have 24/7/365 security support standing by given the industry. I sent in two reports but I never got a confirmation email for either. The original item(to emphasize I never published anything on the site, this item was posted by another user and I was actually interested in purchasing it until I got redirected) which I have reported by phone and by form is still up on their site redirecting users. This one redirect doesn't actually appear malicious though but I have no way of telling how many other items are affected. At some point I feel there is a moral obligation for me to disclose the information which leads me to my second problem.

I have no fucking idea if I'm just overly worried (judging by the comments it would seem so) about the vulnerability. I also have no real idea of how serious it is. But it seems to me that even if a fraction of a fraction of transactions are affected it would still amount to a large amount of stolen information.

What I would really like is for them to email me back and say either "Oh wow yeah thanks for catching that" or "God damn you dumbass, no that's not actually a problem because xyz"

Thank you so much for this. (xpto123 as well).

I tried calling but just got bounced around and I'm not sure anyone actually understood/cared. I've got a nice early season cold going so not really interested in sitting on the phone for hours so I've given up on that.

I'm going to email blast as many of the emails I can get and if I don't hear anything back from them by Monday I'll pass it onto CERT.
