I miss ICQ, I still remember my number. It was my first instant messenger and even after MSN IM and Yahoo IM got big I still preferred chats on ICQ.

Apparently it is not. They have submitted it to the ietf. I will have to watch closely to see if librecalc/excel and languages/libraries adopt support. Seems like it does solve some common problems with CSV.

For me I use the accessibility shortcut, three presses of the side button pops up a menu so I can select color filters (grey scale) and reduce white point (80% is my default). I enable both when I am reading. It's really helped eye strain when I'm reading.

I use an iPhone. I tried switching to Android 3 times over the years since the first iPhone came out. Same plan, same provider, grandfathered in, same house, same spot. Each Android phone did not get the same level of cell service in my house as the iPhone. I have side gigs I do contract work for, and I have had cases of missing calls where the Androids have cost me $100's of dollars; the phone didn't ring... just a voicemail notification showing up hours later.

After the 3rd attempt, the last being a Nexus 5, I gave up. I draw a line when a device messes with my income, regardless of my ideological stance on open source and not having a Windows device or even an Apple laptop in the house for the last 15 years. I'm hitting 40 this year, and switching doesn't have the appeal it once did, and I'm not sure it's worth the effort at this point.

Apollo did have a backend that made up for features that the Reddit API either kept as private APIs or refused to implement. He released the code as open source last week. He paid a part-time developer for the implementation and maintenance of code as well.

Featured that other APIs offer, like webhooks, pub/sub etc., were requested by various developers over the years but never implemented or took far longer to implement (years). This led to developers designing workarounds to get feature parity with Reddit's app, i.e., notifications. A few of these drastically cut down on total number of API calls by design, which would help them reduce the infrastructure spend they are so concerned with.

Ignoring the content consuming (Apollo, RiF, Sync, etc.) third-party app side of the discussion.

My biggest takeaway from the entire argument is Reddit now has 2000 employee's but 100 of the requests for improvements for the API, built-in moderator tools, etc., have been mishandled/ignored/years late. Because of that, many people took matters into their own hands and used the API to fill in the gaps in their moderation/admin/creator workflow, and initially, before they conceded on some of those tools, they were affected as well. It wasn't until a couple of days into the uproar (after the price was released, before the blackout) that they reversed course on some of those tools, including conceding the accessibility apps (being 39, and wearing hearing aids for severe loss, I sympathize with the users that are protesting because the web and first party app are lacking in this). I can understand the protest from the above, especially giving the short timeline between prices being released and go live.

I'm all for businesses being profitable; I'm all for companies having the right to adjust processes, prices and change terms, etc., but in my opinion, Reddit has severely mismanaged this situation and, in general, been a severely mismanaged business if they are as the CEO says not profitable by now.

From reading a few blog posts, there appears to be a complete lack of process and governance since the moderator team resigned and the "leadership chat" (which I understand was only supposed to be temporary) was implemented.

I didn't care for the official statement, it's great they apologized, but it's lacking a lot of details and an RCA. The explanations from other members personal blogs go in further detail and that makes the official statement seem kind of hand wavey.

I'm born and raised in Louisiana left in my late 20's for 10 years in Texas and now live on the East Coast. My accent is all over the place, only time my Louisiana or Texas accent for that matter, come back is if I spend a minimal of two weeks in either state. Company I worked for in Texas out of a few thousand people I only heard a Louisiana accent once and his was way more pronounced then mine being he was from closer to true Cajun country.

I was highly interested in Zed and joined the wait list for Alpha/Beta over a year ago. With that said, I've been using Linux as my only OS for 15 years. I was highly disappointed when the beta was released it was MacOS only.

Original documentation/hype around it tried to make it seem like it would be a cross-platform competitor to VSCode and a replacement to Atom from the start. Recently they even locked the platform support GitHub issue for Linux with the below comment.

Cross platform support is still very much on our radar and we’re dedicated to support both Windows and Linux in the future. As we've previously stated, we aren't taking feedback on the roadmap for platform support and as such we've decided to lock this issue. Any update regarding this will be noted on our website.

No open roadmap, no firm platform support commitments, and a closed development stance from the get go, make this a non starter for me.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if they plan on staying MacOS only and to start charging.

Optiplex 9020's make surprisingly good home servers. I have three, a 2 node proxmox cluster and 1 running as a NAS. The cluster is running 15 VM's including a 5 node docker swarm. I downsized from older HP G1 series in a rack when I moved across country in 2019 and couldn't be happier. Runs everything I need and they were cheap to max out.

I just checked it's $15.99, which is a no go for me at the moment. If they offered a lower cost tier without YouTube music I would do it. However I use pandora (plus), I have for over a decade and have all my stations setup how I want them so I have no need for YouTube music. I mostly use the app anyways on my phone or tablet, so I still get ads. So it's not a big deal, but I do feel that $15.99 is to much at least for me at the moment, considering I pay for pandora and a few other streaming services.

Edit: Just realized I was viewing through the app with the Apple tax markup. However $13 is still more then ideal when I'll never use YouTube Music

I would like to know this as well. I never got a confirmation and I could have swore I signed up months ago when it first opened. I signed up again a few weeks ago and didn't receive a confirmation then either.

Yes! I was going to comment the same, it's a very reasonable model from a developer who makes great software. I recently within the last year switched from the Blink shell to his app "Shellfish" as it's become a daily part of my workflow when using my iOS devices. I highly recommend it if you like workingcopy.

I use PhotoSync as well, I setup a shortcut/automation that runs it anytime I connect to home Wi-Fi, after a 30 second wait and SSID check to prevent false positives.

I still have to click the notification, due to iOS limitations but having the notification show serves as a good reminder to run it.

I'm not yet 40 but I am a male single parent. With the closest family being 1300 miles away. Last year between March-May my health deteriorated so bad that I went from being fine to walking with a cane in less than 2 months. Once finally diagnosed, I went from diagnoses to major surgery in less than 12 days.

My daughter (just turned 16), picked up the slack as I become pretty much bed ridden.

I can attest that this had a very destermental effect on her health. Not only having to manage the house, school, etc but also without any support from anyone. At the same time watching me go from someone who use to be able to squat 500lbs to someone who couldn't be trusted to wash dishes without breaking a few because I had lost all feeling, balance, and depth perception.

Go one night, hearing your daughter sob in her room because she doesn't want you to see she's hurting and scared from what YOU are going through and then come back and comment because right now you are a very ignorant human to think it doesn't. Especially since see already lost one parent.

The RAM was a lucky find. Amazon warehouse had an open box 64GB kit for $180ish, which the price of a new 32GB kit at the time iirc. I figured I'd take a chance on it, and ran memtest on it for 32 hours or so and it checked out. I tend to run a lot of VM's and docker containers to minimize the need to VPN and use the corporate test/dev environment.

Mine has the i7 and the touch screen, I ended up I talking the seller down to $800 BIN on eBay and at the time it still had a year left on the warranty.

All in all, RAM and extra HDD I'm only in it for $1200 which I think was great deal for the last Lenovo Thinkpad that doesn't have soldiered RAM.

I ended up going with a second hand T580 last year myself. It was a hard choice between the T480 or the T580, but I've been extremely happy with my decision. It's now maxed out with 64GB ram, and a second SSD in the WWAN slot. I'm running Debian Sid with ZFS root on it.

I ended up with a TI-86 as the cheaper ones were sold out at the time of the school supply rush.

I'd order one instantly if they did a 16" version with a 16:10 aspect ratio. I stopped using external monitors with my laptop years ago because I found that most of the time, the items I had up on the second, third, and fourth screens were more distractions than anything else. I now use a 32" inch 1080p TV as a single screen with the laptop closed when docked (which is rarely the case lately since I had a triple disc fusion in May. I now migrate between my kitchen bar, dining room table, and couch with a folding table due to hurting if in the same position for too long)

I've had coworkers call me out (not rude, just "hey you know you just use -l... instead of --longopt") on calls because I always use long options when available. I use the hyphen explanation all the time as I've ran into it a few times.

I also prefer CLI applications that are designed to use the "=" for arguments with long options. Applications which don't use "=" or respect it, irk me because the it's ambiguous... "Is that argument an argument or sub command" when looking through history.

With that said the Pixel 7 Pro looks nice, and I would love to give it a try but I'll only do that if I have it on a separate dedicated line to try out besides my main one that have had for 20 years. Not sure it's worth the effort at this point.

Even text editors can have security vulnerabilities that allow privilege escalation. Especially if they support plugins which this does.

I have a work laptop, but do 99% of my work on an identical VM that sets on my homelab proxmox cluster. Working this way allows me to work from any device, even my phone or iPad from anywhere. It's encrypted, has all the standard security tools required for work, etc. Our VPN suite checks for all of that on connection. I have the added benefit of being able to provision with massive amount of resources that it'll only use when needed due to ballooning and quick backup and rollbacks due to LVM thin provisioning.

I do have everything sync back to the work laptop so in the rare case I lose internet or have a hardware issue with the cluster I can continue working. But that's only happened once in the last two years when a completing fiber provider cut a fiber line on my property laying their own fiber. (Not their fault, my current provider had the markings off by 50', and even then the foreman gave me a gift certificates for the trouble)

I fail to to see the usefulness of your reply. My text has quite a few key phrases. However I guess you didn't see the other key phrases like. "Do that 100 times, over a 10 year period and it'll make anyone hate a specific language or technology."

Just because it changed, doesn't invalidate people's past experiences/grievances.

Personally, as I stated I don't hate it like I use to and will use it when it's the right solution to the current problem but just because it's better now days doesn't mean it has to be my first choice.
