Wow. This reminds me of my experience with Coinbase. I find it interesting that they don't see how troublesome all this is. There's a human on the other end of the technology, and shutting them out without a solid reason, or the ability to reasonable appeal is crazy.

Coinbase, Venmo, and others are not enabling censorship resistant crypto payments. Coinbase does track who and where you send your crypto to, so in theory they can control what you do with it. The workaround would be to send your crypto to wallets not associated with them, even still.

Theoretically, no, the hack wouldn't happen if they knew there was no chance.

Realistically, yes, the hack would still happen. Because there will never be a world where people don't pay ransoms, especially if they have no other options / backups.

Won't always be that simple. Let's say hackers also compromised the backups.

I mean if you have backups then sure, don't pay. Every case won't be that simple. It also seems a bit odd that they'd pay if they truly had all the backups they needed.

If it was illegal to pay the hackers back, and the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack still happened, what would the options be? We'd have to turn the systems back on some way right?

Not to say Tesla doesn't have these issues, they probably do. Thing is if you go on Google and type "X issues" you will almost always find what you're looking for.

We're working on a PGP app called Safe Easy Privacy on iOS. Our idea is that if PGP was easier to use more would use it for private communications, we're still in the early stages and we know that PGP isn't the perfect solution, but it's better than nothing. We've noticed people saying they're using Safe to share keys with people who aren't tech savvy.

Tying college fees to ability to earn is important because most students are told from every authority in their lives that getting a college degree is the "guarantee". If students weren't told that, then sure, maybe there's other things to focus on and talk about, the problem is most people are being told and sold on the "guarantee".

I've noticed that too. Needing to stay busy or be distracted. It's probably low self-awareness and discipline. Something they have an opportunity to cultivate during lockdowns, hopefully.

I think people are not used to thinking about how their actions affect others on a bigger scale unless the effects are right in-front of them.
