The really cool thing that I forgot to mention here is that it makes the model composable
As you provide requirements and specs via properties to your project OR by adding components (which have their own properties) you are implicitly optimizing the model towards your use case (eg Analog Audio Aerospace applications)
These requirements/specs are all in human language…so an added benefit is that you provide more documentation for your human peers too!
How it works has been rapidly evolving
But in short: yes, thats how it works as of today! Our docs go into a bit more detail here.
But this space has been moving so fast that usually how it worked last week issn’t how it works this week.
You could easily imagine us leveraging fine tuned world models models on top of prompting in the near future.
Another thing to add is that we use a bunch of different models for our Copilot implementation…some popular off the shelf ones as well as some that we trained ourselves.

Hardware engineers get a bad rep for being stubborn when what they actual want is just good tools…and we believe they deserve them and so we are building them!

From the engineers that design the motherboard of the phone in your pocket to students and hobbyists
Use case go from learning/explanation to brainstorming, component research, figuring out the match for signal filters, to triaging of issues and so on.

It’s something we spend a lot of time thinking about. On one side we want to prevent hallucinations but on the other we want to keep the LLMs creativeness
We are experimenting with a bunch of different approaches here already
Preventing hallucinations and therefore improving correctness is fairly simple by providing the model with factual data sources which is something we are working on
The challenge is to balance that so that the model is also still creative when you want it to…but we are making progress here too

We knew that we had to build a foundation first to have any shot at getting AI right.
I worked at Meta for years and knew first hand that ML/AI can only ever get good with loooots of training data.
So we needed a way to produce lots of high quality training data first and a way for users to be able to reason about results and edit them.
There is a graveyard of failed AI hardware design projects and one thing they all have in common is that they are black boxes…its very obviously the wrong approach. But every week a new one pops up…I don’t even understand why anyone funds this stuff anymore frankly…it can’t work.
So we embarked on building our own eCAD editor first…that was gonna be step number one. It was also the hardest and most expensive way to go about it… but if you have big dreams then you just have to go and do big things. I recent these get rich quick schemes personally anyways…I love doing hard things!
LLMs just starting to get good around the time we had the editor ready for public launch (after years of beta) was a happy coincidence that makes us look like geniuses now. But I take it lol.
We had been actively playing on the side for the past 6 months on ideas for first AI features as we geared up for launch of the core editor but the critical insight to use our existing projects comments surface was a last minute brain fart that came to us about 6 weeks ago.
Things went pretty quick from there and we are moving extremely fast now that we have the right foundation.
