Within home schooling communities, Singaporean style math has quite a following. Singapore also tends to score quite high on international exams. Basically, they focus on fewer topic more deeply. The best AndOTP feature for me is the fact that it integrates with OpenKeyChain thus allowing the use of PGP keys for backups. I also wish there were more apps that use OpenKeyChain. For example something that allowed notetaking.
I think the way to achieve your goal is different. Allow non-sociopaths a fighting chance to compete. If you are parent, and you love your family, it is impossible to put in the hours. Only the broken will rise to the top and work 12 hr days. One way to minimize this is cap working hours.

Verizon has a section of their site to turn off marketing and adjust privacy settings. Notably absent is the ability to turn off location sharing. I emailed the privacy department and they totally dodged my question. I still would like, and think it's important to have, an option to opt out of all location sharing. I don't care if it's for fraud prevention since that is easily abused by companies.

Ease of sharing is precisely why it's so powerful. I can send a link to a shared spreadsheet without the person having to login. Very little friction. Also, being able to co-edit in real time is very powerful. I think libreoffice offline is great, but for 80% of my use cases, gdocs is more convenient and useful. But I'm no longer comfortable with google having so much of my personal and business life.

One way to solve this problem is to create a data license that allows data sharing for replication use only until some embargo date set by the researcher. This would allow external researchers to immediately replicate published results, but would prohibit them from unfairly benefiting from someone else's hard work.
Emacs provides support for all major databases. You can interactively "send" chunks of sql to the db client, get syntax highlighting, etc. However, this seems better in that it does not rely on db clients. It would be awesome if financial companies were required to provide free api's along with the full financial history. Currently companies like BOA charge you for automated access to your account and others actively limit Mint, for instance, from retrieving information on behalf of customers.
I like it too, but I had issues when I had to compile packages and other stuff. In particular, its version of qmake can interfere in unpredictable ways.

On the similar note, the NFL app on my android, which was installed without permission and cannot be deleted, sends 10s of megabytes of data to Verizon even though I've never opened it once. What it's sending, I don't know, and it's using up my data plan for no reason.

In theory, your passwords are encrypted locally before they are uploaded. They claim that they are unable to see your passwords. That said, they are right next door to Langley, VA so who knows.
I've played with many of these. And this one is pretty good. One thing that I'd like to see is a "verbal" option in these types of apps. I have trouble "hearing" math and keeping it in my head. I envision an app speaking the problem, then you have to type in the answer. It requires both math and keeping the problem in your head. Lastly, a verbal or speaking option maps to many real world scenarios.

I think you make a good point. It's a security product that can harm people's lives. So in that way, it's different then lots of other startups.
It's ironic that the outrage came from Reddit because that site was built on lying to people (in the beginning)

Now that they have solved the chicken-and-the-egg problem, they're legit.
Point being, lot's of startups over-promise (and exaggerate) in the beginning. It takes time fix bugs and find things. If you waited for a perfect product and were 110% honest you would likely not get any traction.
That's not to say that this guy shouldn't be penalized for lying about where he sourced his products though!
Does anyone know if DisplayLink compatibility has been re-introduced? It seemed like it was in there for a while and then taken out... Ormy foo in getting DisplayLink devices to work out of the box is weak.
There is one positive aspect to all this that I would like to point out.
Most social science does not use math, so it makes it hard to argue against ill-defined concepts and ideas. So the fact that these mistakes were found is actually a positive thing and shows one reason why math is useful. That's not to say math cannot be used to obscure arguments and assumptions, it can, but words can do that too.

This sounds similar to how Reddit grew. It created a bunch of fake accounts until it didn't need to no more. Though there has been little outcry about that practice around here.
