So basically sending some people on worse routes for the sake of the “greater good”? I long suspected they did this and is not what I want. The video explains why the analysis is wrong and gives a very clear graph of how when you look at the proper data, there’s no benefit from the shingles vaccine for dementia. The signal is clear as day.
FWIW Eric Topol is an extremely unreliable source. He has “fame” but most of his stories end up being wrong because of his poor analysis like the review above. I subscribed to him during the pandemic when he migrated to substack but ended my subscription after countless bad articles.
It’s the opposite. Observational studies are very biased by the selection process and the only way to get signal from them is rct.

As per one of the slides around 7 minutes in, there are many vaccines that show a 20-40% reduction in mortality and dementia.
The talk above basically says that “observational studies” may show great results, like the so-called protective action of the shingles vaccine against dementia. However when brought to a well designed RCT all those benefits don’t actually show up. And the speaker shows later on that the shingles vaccines shows a marked benefit for shingles but nothing for dementia.
This is wonderful. Hopefully this is an extinction level event for all of the toxic degree factories that were created just to take advantage of the non-dischargeable student loans. US tuition almost tripled in the last 15 years but the quality of education didn’t triple.
Trump himself took advantage of this by creating Trump university which was a for-profit degree mill.
All of those “schools” needs to be wiped off the map and hopefully get replaced by schools that show real value.

My biggest pet peeve with all these articles on local AI is the only thing they talk about is tokens per second. No one mentions the quality of the answers. No one. I don't mind waiting a little longer if the quality is better. Quickly serving me slop doesn't make it more useful. Are people really only looking at tokens per second?
My aunt had the same disease you mention and was on medications since the 90s. She lead a healthy life with no real side effects from her medication and she passed away last year in her 80s. To be perfectly honest, she did die of the disease, because her medication stopped working and her bone marrow was all scarred. But up until a year before she passed away she was very active and healthy. Once the medication stopped working, she went steadily downhill until she passed away.
Hopefully you get great progress on your research but I just wanted to reassure you that the name sounds scary but the current treatment appears to work well and hopefully gives you enough runway to find your cure.
The insane level of flopping with no dignity or shame, and the insane level of allowing this to happen without any penalties is one of the biggest reasons why I don’t watch soccer. Another bury-your-head-in-the-sand article. It sucks but AI replacing coders is very real. I haven’t coded since last year but I’ve pushed more features at a rate faster than I ever could in my entire career. I pushed new code while chatting on WhatsApp with my friends yesterday using 2 prompts.
“Remove this old feature.” “Are you sure you didn’t break anything?”
That was it. Then I manually tested it to make sure nothing was broken. Then I did a brief review before posting it for code review and then pushed it. What would have taken me probably about 1 day to go through and figure out code changes and then actually change the code took me about 30 seconds.
To think that we need to maintain the post-Covid hiring bloat is nonsense. I’m not so arrogant to think that someone with an llm can’t replace me, if I survive a few more years in this industry I’ll be amazed and grateful.

It's probably never going to happen because neither party cares about protecting Americans rights, but we need to have some sort of law that creates a Chinese firewall between these mass surveillance data and the government, or whoever else.
I don't know if you could ever collect this data and never have foreign entities or NSA moles infiltrate into it by sending their agents to work at that company and steal the data whenever they want. But I can see how this would be good at fighting crime but also a completely and absolute destruction of privacy.
We need politicians that actually care about Americans and their rights but no one who cares is dumb enough to want to go into politics, which is the sad thing.
The article acts like ibogaine is a newly discovered drug. This is an old hallucinagenix drug that has helped thousands of people get over ptsd. The only thing holding this back is government bureaucracy and red tape. I’m happy that people will get there chance to benefit from this after decades of stupid government policy.
This blog post is nonsensical and the arbitray time boxes aren't realistic. Not all development cycles or features require legal input and I would hazard most don't, even in Big Tech. Documentation takes seconds to generate. Same as tests.
Feature development could take minutes to hours depending on how you iterate it. These days, all we do now is just think of a feature and add it within an hour using AI. We have a process that is a year old now that is fixing bugs that would have taken us hours or days and it spits out a fix in about 10-15 minutes that is 95% accurate. 5% is garbage, but 24 months ago, 95% of it was garbage so the progress is staggering. The longest pole is code review which is all human, but that will all be automated soon.
Not everything will be much faster, but most processes will be 1-3 orders of magnitude faster. To ignore this or find excuses why LLMs/AI won't speed things up or remove the need for large swathes of humans is delusional and cope-ism.
