Spike Lee is very much the right addressee.

This isn't enforced by browsers. They will happily render all elements with the same ID and apply the same styles to all of them.

We live in post-xhtml times, browsers will try to make sense and render all sorts of bad code.

If you accidentally put the logo twice on the page, it will be clearly visible. It virtually never happens and when it does it isn't hard to track down.

You're assuming the visual difference in applied style is always clearly visible, like a repeated logo. No, it's often not, not until someone changes something in a class and the change is populated everywhere the class was reused. An ID is a guarantee it was not reused, or at the very least serves as a "do not reuse" sign.

The fact that they cannot be reused in a single page is what makes IDs so useful.

There are benefits of IDs others mentioned, but for me properly used IDs make CSS so much clearer. An ID in CSS code is a flag saying: "custom-crafted for this part of the page only, not to be reused", or "non-modular code".

Unlike a class, an ID informs me with 100% certainty that if modified, it will not affect other instances on the page, because there are none. It's hard to overestimate the value of such information, especially when working on older or someone else's code.

Patrick is 24, his brother is even younger. I am with Stripe from the day they launched in Ireland, it was easy to choose them over the likes of Braintree and Paymill who aimed for simplicity but still required quite some formalities. Also, Paymill is Samwer brothers, a turn-off for some entrepreneurs and developers.

I really don't like the idea of the Playlist-driven interface forcing itself in front. I have no use for Playlist, why do I have to see it, ever?

Even when I launch a file from Finder, I get a split-second blink of the Playlist. And when the clip stops, I see Playlist instead of the starting screen and can't drag and drop to play files to it anymore.

When I disable the Playlist by pressing its button on the interface, the expanding transition of the window when opening a file is oddly jumpy — hopefully an easy fix in future releases (I'm on OSX 10.8.5). Playlist still appears at times.

The standalone Controller module from the interface… I miss it, any chance of it ever returning?

Back to the two years old VLC 1.1.12 for me, it was much better thought-out interface-wise (Playlist is just a functionality, not the driving feature and Controller is still there) — and it still plays every file I need it to.

I will of course keep checking for updates.

He doesn't get that iTunes is not a media player, but a music and video shop sneakily embedded in your computer. Media player functionality is only added there to lure you in so you would buy content from Apple.

Obviously, Apple doesn't care for your youtube videos. But I wouldn't expect a Keynesist to understand the nuances of how modern products are structured and real product often concealed behind a freebie.

If you want a media player, just download one. My favourite is AVPlayer for iPhone (and AVPlayer HD for iPad). Plays all formats I tried.

Paypal is a turnoff for many customers. I've met people who will not use it no matter what and will quote the popular horror stories.

Braintree seems ok-ish but has a €100 minimum monthly fee. Paymill seems to be just fine but has some formal requirements.

Realex and Sagepay have a monthly fee, also require a merchant account, this is where the fun begins (although Sagepay offers own merchant accounts too).

Stripe. All you need is 10-15 minutes it takes to fill the online form and set things up. Done. I always thought the downside was that it was considerably more expensive than others. Not in Ireland, it isn't — unless I'm missing something.

You're saying "placebo effect" like it's a bad thing. Many doctors agree placebo is a powerful drug, and a component of every type of pill administered to a conscious person. Even a consultation with a doctor can have a positive, even if unmeasurable placebo effect on a patient's health. If this method is about effective application of placebo and it works, at least for some people, what harm can be in it?
