It's not impossible to solve those types of problems if you prepare ahead of time. I think that problem just requires dynamic programming/memoization, which is one of the things you're told to study beforehand.

The difference is most people snorkeling for the first time do it with an instructor who is very much interested in their well-being. I don't think the guy who sells you LSD is gonna lose sleep if you happen to develop a lifelong mental condition.

My "screw this" moment was when I discovered you needed an internet connection to play Minesweeper.

I mean, if you wanted to be sure you wouldn't get caught with your mistress, you basically would have to wear a bag on your head, no? Or at least her meet her indoors. You certainly wouldn't complain about invasion of privacy when your wife's friend sees you with the mistress on a date.

Perhaps the point isn't that people with these traits always succeed, but rather that people who succeed all have these traits.

The Death of Cash 11 years ago

For me, the only use case of cash is "The tiny fraction of vendors who don't accept debit."

Oh, and I guess under-the-table payments.

It's probably worth pointing out that Good Educator != Good Author. I have heard from people who would know that your guess is not so far off, but having taken classes from him I can attest he is an excellent teacher in addition to being a world class mathematician.

I also want to add that although he is extremely friendly and helpful, it'd be dishonest to say he isn't a bit weird. However, that is probably just an ingredient/consequence of greatness; I reckon most of the big name tech founders discussed on these forums are a bit weird.

IMO the best choice for a calendar is three separate boxes clearly labeled "MM", "DD", and "YYYY" in some order, preferably with the property that once the second (or fourth) character is typed, the cursor is automatically tabbed over to the next box.

A few months ago, I wrote a simple Android app and put it on the Play Store. Now every two weeks I receive unsolicited spammy emails about ad campaigns and increasing user awareness. Funny how those get through the filter.

If someone sent you an email every day from different email addresses with the same text saying they were going to rape and murder you, and included your home address, pictures of your family and pictures of weapons, that wouldn't bother you?

How do you know there are no real-world consequences? You're just gonna assume it's some 14-year-old kid trolling you and not one of the many insane people in this world who might actually do something? Based on a hunch?
