Delivering quality web solutions is out of my realm of expertise, so if I were to hand it off the experience would probably would probably be lack-luster.

ClosedBridge is my small consulting company in the embedded space, and I'm just spitballing ideas to bring eyes to it.

There are search spaces that are quite large that are used in optimal control. GPUs can be used to drastically accelerate finding a solution.

As an example, imagine you are given a height map, a 2D discrete search space overlayed in the height map, 4 legs, and robot dynamics for every configuration of the legs in their constrained workspace. Find the optimal toe placement of the 4 legs. Although a GPU isn't designed exactly to deal with this sort of problem, if it's framed as a reduction problem it still significantly out performs a multi core CPU.

I actually worked for a startup that makes tiny FPAA's (Field Programmable Analog Arrays) for the low powered battery market. Their major appeal was that you could reprogram the chip to synthesize a real analog network to offload the signal processing portion of your product for a tiny fraction of the power cost.

The key thing is that analog components are influenced much more by environmental fluctuations (think temperature, pressure, and manufacturing), which impacts the "compute" of an analog network. Their novelty was that the chip can be "trimmed" to offset these impacts using floating gate MOSFETs, the same that are used in flash memory, as an analog offset. It works surprisingly well, and I suspect if they can capture the low power market we'll see a revitalization of analog compute in the embedded space. It would be really exciting to see this enter the high bandwidth control system world!

Ideally this would be a standalone app (perhaps ported using electron) that I could run locally, and import codebases directly. Sourcegraph was on the right track, but eventually fizzled out unfortunately.

I would love to use a tool like this to navigate the unknown on rails!

Your statements are true, but please present this information with nuance. Yes you have an increased risk of cancer, but it's a small percentage and not a guarantee. Untreated bowel disease is guaranteed to have side effects, horrible QoL, and a much higher risk of cancer than medications.

Prednisone is the one exception though, unless life is completely unlivable or you have a significant chance of death (typically from perforation) I would avoid it.

I've considered a second job as well, but I'd have to skip out on my noon Jiu Jitsu classes and freedom to play Pickleball whenever I please. I'm paid well enough where the value my hobbies bring outweighs the extra income of a second job.

Once the map between entanglement and exponential parallelism is clear, quantum computing becomes a breeze /s. Seriously though, entanglement is the root of what makes quantum computing useful.

One subset of problems that are solved exponentially faster are those that intersect with tensor products. Entanglement essentially "is" a tensor product of the probabilistic state space of two qubits.

Although I didn't quit my job, having sizeable breaks between different jobs has been quite valuable. Time off between gigs feels more "free" because the expectations aren't the same when the break is finished.

Anecdotally this is true for me. I was looking for a new role a few months ago, and a friend recommended me for a position that wasn't posted as remote, but made it clear I needed a remote position. The company is slowly shifting to allow fully remote workers, but hasn't started listed the positions as such. I've been the (hopefully successful) experiment for remote first hiring.

Wow, this is eerily similar to my previous employer (even down to the industry!). I loved loved loved the product, my role in it's success, and the problems I was tasked with solving. Unfortunately, humans can take all of the fun out of robots.

I too pride my self in stress resilience, but at a certain point I realized the joy in my work was offset by the annoyance of interpersonal issues. Leaving the company was bittersweet. I was still going to work in robotics, but it certainly wasn't as "cool". Now that it's been a few months at my new gig, I realize my QoL is much better as I actually enjoy the people I primarily work with.

Providing ultimatums to upper management may cure your woes, but you have to be willing back up the consequences you promised. So if action isn't taken by the CEO you'll need to fulfill your promise of leaving, or at least get an offer to show you're serious. If things don't change when you show your strongest hand, that's definitely a sign it's time to leave.

This reads like it's an improvement for logical qbits, but we still haven't closed in on the holy grail of the completely stable logical qbit. I'm very excited to see progress in the quantum computing space over the next few years, and hope the provability of useful computing can be achieved quite soon.

It's kind of concerning that most of the state of the art research is coming out of private institutions. What is the private timeline executives expect, and what happens to the research if those expectations aren't met? That's partially why I'm hoping to see actual useful application soon, to ensure that private investor attraction stays vested.

I always love stories like this. When you first join a company who's product you admire, I feel like the implicit assumption is that they know what they're doing. Then after some detective work as a curious noobster you realize that everyone is just as clueless as you are!

Ever since I had discovered shadertoy I've been searching for a consolidated source like this. I have a decent graphics background after taking a handful undergrad courses, but most of the producers on shadertoy just seem like magicians comparatively. Very excited to check this out!

You're correct, doctors/biologists still do not know the root cause of IBD (UC/Chrons). In fact, most autoimmune diseases are quite poorly understood due to the vast dimensional space that can influence the human immune system. If there is evidence that it could be controlled via an mRNA vaccine, it would give me much hope for the future of controlling autoimmune diseases without consistent drug intervention or surgery.

I haven't read anything related to treating autoimmune diseases with mRNA, that would be quite exciting. Do you happen to have a reference for this?

I have Ulcerative Colitis, which is a form of an autoimmune disease. A vaccine as a cure would be a game changer.
