Given some people got sued into oblivion with ridiculous dollar value outcomes on a per unit basis - why doesn't this apply here?

I mean, it feels to me like one or both of:

1. The class action lawyers werent 100% certain they could win in court. 2. The class action lawyers smelled an easy payday.

I also think that the 1500 bucks going to most of these authors is going to be more than they ever saw in royalties. I read somewhere that 500 - 1500 bucks is roughly what a self pub book makes in its lifetime. Why push the envelope? Anthropic hasnt done anything that deserves to pay for the entire lifetime royalties of most books. Their legal alternative is to cut the spine off and scan the book in. In which case the author and publisher will be splitting 20 bucks instead, assuming Anthropic isnt buying used.

Its not a punishment at all because this is a civil case that has been settled out of court.

A whole bunch of local stations got bought up by a web sales optimisation company. They do a really good job tbh. They leave the radio station in tact but just advertise their ability to make websites + google seo + advertise via radio and billboard in one package. If it keeps the station going its a nothingburger.

Theres also a local christian radio station I am only aware of because the guy fixing my fence was blasting it on his stereo. They were taking donations the entire time. I am sincerely not interested but they seem to deliver what their listeners want too.

There were plenty of tests and pilots of systems like that described. Dual goals of reducing the cost of transferring property and publicly attesting all current ownership. Real lawyers and real lawmakers developed proposals to integrate these sort of services with current public land registries.

I once had to work with a guy who didnt believe in dynamic routing.

He sadly did very much believe in Mikrotik scripting, and so had scripts setup to disable/enable static routes based on very broad (often external) reachability criteria.

The network was a large wisp with more than 600 pops and more than 10000 customers on its various services.

That engineer had been gainfully employed by multiple ISPs over 20 years.

I can see that you might get confused by the form factor, but I guarantee you can find these running entire branches of a wisp network.

It's not insane to ask for sane defaults or UIs which hide progressive complexity. Ubiquiti manage it far better. Teltonika manage it far better.

Unifi is explicitly targeting prosumers. When they do snap out of that and target the ISP space you get things like their faulty dual UI POE switches (Make a change in the old UI? Welp thats going to wipe your comments from the new one!) or the poor slobs custom building rifle scopes for AF60 LR.

Perhaps Mikrotik don't have the resources to do that - fair enough, that's a business decision. But it's not insane to desire a UI which encapsulates domain knowledge in a way which guides the user. That's just good UI.

The issue is that is the current situation. It does guide the user, the average one who will purchase their product. What they don't have is a big warning for people stumbling in from elsewhere.

The problem with UIs like Mikrotiks, which are effectively just a graphical overlay on a config file, is that they make it very easy to make a mistake.

Yeah this is an issue tik has had for a long time. What they need to do is ape junos's commit feature set. But what they have is safe mode which reloads your old config on disconnect.
