The initial version, released in 2010, was based on Apache Thrift and it predated Finagle, their building block for RPC services at Twitter. The Snowflake they're using internally is a full rewrite and heavily relies on existing infrastructure at Twitter to run.

This reminds me a little bit of Twitter's snowflake: To generate the roughly-sorted 64 bit ids in an uncoordinated manner, we settled on a composition of: timestamp, worker number and sequence number.

Sequence numbers are per-thread and worker numbers are chosen at startup via zookeeper (though that’s overridable via a config file).

Ah, that makes so much more sense. I had thought after looking at the wallet: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/bc1qd2jkf8lxp5d3y50gf... that it was "scrambled/tumbled/anonymized" by the attacker.

Interesting... on 2022-12-13 the bounty has been claimed! Just a few hours after mprime1 shared the project in a comment on HackerNews, someone managed to drain the BTC.

I'm extremely pleased that Kubernetes has been open sourced by Google. It truly seems to me that the developer community is and will remain to be able to rally around Kubernetes as an open standard both today and in the future without fear of any outside agendas; as Brendan so eloquently stated. I for one applaud Google's level of transparency when it comes to the future of the project and the overall product vision.

I'm really excited about this announcement; as I feel that it gives people the the best of both worlds today. The ability to share the same hardware and use both systems in parallel should lead to some interesting new developments for sure.

I trust that RH has their reasons for such a large shift. So far they're doing amazing work contributing back to Kubernetes especially all the shepherding that Clayton Coleman is doing for the broader community. As the CEO of Kismatic I'm excited that more companies are jumping on the Kubernetes bandwagon.
