Are there any reliable numbers on the holistic impact of ruminants? All of the carbon they emit came from the atmosphere via their plant diets, and a huge volume of that carbon is sequestered in the soil via their excrement. Ruminants help the soil, as opposed to modern agriculture which is largely reliant on fossil fuel derived fertilizer.

I have yet to see a paper that models this. Most of the estimates are purely based on output, which seems disingenuous at best.

The SCD40 series is a pain to calibrate - it will drift out of calibration unless it's left outside at some points. It's not ideal for consumer electronics.

I don't think that's true. There are precious few UI guidelines that persist, and GUI design has been on the forefront of many fads. Looking at the touch-first UI of today, I have very little confidence that a GUI will look anything like it does now in 10 years.

Yes definitely. Vim will be around for the rest of your career, long after VSCode or other IDE's have come and gone. Investing in tools and workflows that are properly open source, and have serious longevity has a big payoff.

Honestly, as someone that has climbed Mont Blanc twice, what is necessary is not more red tape, but to actually enforce the current equipment rules at the Gouter. And based on the importance that mountaineering brings to the area, it wouldn't hurt to go and knock down the loose rock in the Gouter couloir.

I have 15 years of SWE experience, primarily with front-end development, but also backend, management and product management. I like to solve problems, so I'm more motivated by the goal than the tools at hand.

What do you use to mount this on a mac? My bottleneck with my NAS is the atrocious speeds I get over samba or NFS, and even after spending a ton of time messing with the configs, I can’t get more than sluggish speeds.

Finished Candy House recently and found it fairly mediocre. She seems to prefer writing about people than thinking through the consequences of the technology she introduced, and as a result, the Sci-Fi aspects feel awkwardly bolted on to the story, rather than having any real consequences to the people in it.

But all of this caution is negated by feeding cattle antibiotics as a matter of process on feedlots.

This seems to violate many of the OpenAI release guidelines (I am currently working on guiding a project through them, so am painfully aware of their stringency).
