How would one move beyond the reach of NSLs?

If you find yourself with the opportunity to see Bradley Kuhn speak I'd highly recommend it. I met Bradley at the Linux Fest North West event this year in April and it was one of my favourite and most formative moments of the year. Noisetor (sub-project of the Noisebridge hackerspace in SF) received an identical subpoena, and had the same results. We contacted our legal counsel and subsequently the FBI to explain the whole "we can't provide this information because tor" at which point they dropped our requirement to testify.

Scrolling on this site w/ a mac is incredibly frustrating. It keeps resetting to the top of the page.

Is anyone else having issues with this stopping every 30 seconds or so? I can't get a continual stream going at all w/ VLC. The site flash players load nothing for me either.

I feel the same about Google Voice at the moment. It's killer feature for me right now is the ability to text and call people from my Google Voice account from OS X. I use GrowlVoice[1] extensively. It's easily one of my favourite menubar applications.

If TextSecure could replace this functionality it'd cause me to seriously reconsider GV

Super excited to see this news and what the CircleCI team have planned. Can't overstate how much I love CircleCI or how much easier it makes my life. Definitely one of the best services I use day to day.

This is worrying as my Mum's iPhone just bit the dust and we replaced it with an Android phone. I'm hoping that she doesn't experience the same issues with her friends and family (many of whom use iPhones).

Take some time to decompress. The winding down period is stressful and it seems you're already feeling the effects.

As many have mentioned you've only enriched your resume with this experience. Use it to find yourself work, your incubator network should be full of people looking to hire.

I've gone through this and it's stressful as all hell but you'll make it through. With your nose right up against it the problems seem much more formidable than they are in reality. Employees come first in terms of settling debts. Deal with vendors after that.

You could also sell back to the grid. I've known people to do this if they live near streams / rivers in WA

Installed it and while it looks very nice it's been beachballing almost constantly with only 2 accounts connected (facebook and hangout)

Search is very slow and causes ~500ms input lag.

Needs a lot of polish still.

I'm unsure why you say there are no other alternatives. Surely the choice of database should preference your data and what you want to do with it over the language you'll use? There are node libraries for any database I've ever wanted to use (SQL and NoSQL alike)

NPR ran a story about 3-4 months ago where they interviewed this teenager in Florida while recounting the story. I couldn't believe my ears.

It sounded like textbook entrapment. Are the police in these areas so desperate for drug-related arrests that they'd use tactics like this? IIRC the case ended up being her word against his on the key points of his conviction. That too rubbed me entirely the wrong way. To first lure him in and then use only one person's testimony to clinch the conviction sounds totally unjust.

Not at all unlikely since the FBI has been in the practice of using surreptitious entry since at least the 1970 at the behest of the NSA and the CIA in a bid to recover cryptographic keys and other information instead of having to brute force them. Why spend all that money on computation when you can just break into someone's Embassy instead and steal it?

I managed to open accounts with Chase while my SSN application was still pending / didn't have the paperwork in hand yet. They chased me up afterwards for it though and have sent me paperwork repeatedly asking for the information (SSN, reason for being in the US etc) in relation to any interest paid on accounts.

Is it possible to hold an account without any sort of tax ID number (ITIN or SSN) Surely one of them is required?

what version of ZSH are you using? I'm having issues installing this on Ubuntu where the metadata commands aren't executing and are instead printed as

I ordered mine through element14 and got it two weeks later around July this summer.

From my (albeit limited) observations I thought they never turned away citizens but obviously I was wrong. Getting appointments with the US embassy can sometimes be a challenging ordeal. They do however make allowances for emergency appointments which can be very helpful at times.

My experience with US embassies (both the one in Brussels and Dublin) has never seen them refuse entry to a US citizen and tell them to re-schedule. They usually have separate entrances as well with different procedures.
