This is the article I was thinking of. I don't think we can pretend that pensions are not a problem, and not a massive strain on government budgets. Incomes of pensioners have increased a lot more than incomes of working-age people, and French over 65 earn more than French working-age (slightly different claim than I made).
What do you want, when you stress that retired people earn too much
I want to pay less into unsustainable pension system and to be able to save for my own future instead. I would love more of Europe to get a system similar to Australia's superannuation system.
I don't know why everyone is being so dismissive. Pensions in Europe nowadays are just transfers from young and poor to older and wealthier. The average French pensioner (not working) has a higher income than the average French worker (working).
True hacker spirit here.
45 billion / 1500 $ is 30 million workers. How did we arrive at 30 million?
Nobody ever said other models were bastions of objectivity. They only implied they weren't corrupted by Musk. Which is true, and which is good.
Trump 2 is worse than Trump 1 by far from EU perspective. And it also proved that it wasn't a once-off that Americans will vote in someone who threatens to dismantle NATO, invade Greenland, or start trade wars with allies for no reason.
It's not a marathon, or any race. There is no a finish line. It doesn't matter that much that someone is a minute ahead.
Which system are you talking about?
Hyperbole.
I never understand these positions. How do authors make money selling books if someone can legally copy it and give it out for free?
The big difference is that the assets are given back when they stop invading other another country.
given Europe seized a ton of Russian assets
Those assets are frozen, not seized.
The majority could have voted for a different government if they didn't want this one. I could understand this argument somewhere else, but the US has fair elections and voted for this twice.
Americans should stop voting in governments like this then.
Who issued this fine?
Ryanair are the biggest airline in Europe and they exclusively fly Boeing 737s.
What is the HN way to say "touch grass"?
I saw nobody making those arguments. Most people were thinking that Ireland doesn't burn coal anymore. People who think or care about this stuff know that interconnects exist.
I'd love to see proper WebSocket support, and JWTs.
Truly we entering the era of AGI.
People on HN never been wise to any law. For some reason they think that law operates like a set of instructions that a CPU operates.
Do bugs and bad implementations not exist in US software? If an US company did this, nobody would be bloviating about how it is a cultural issue or whatever.
It's about collecting stickers.
presume pulling this data out is simple if you’re, say, China
Why would you presume that?
The reaction to its original removal on Instagram Reels, r/ChatGPT, etc., was genuinely so weird and creepy. I didn't realise before this how many people had genuine parasocial (?) relationships with these LLMs.
This happens a lot on HN. I remember there was a court order for OpenAI to release ChatGPT chat history, and many of the comments were simply "why are they even storing chat history in the first place? ridiculous" as if that isn't a core feature of ChatGPT.
Forcing a company to do business with another company is insanity.
This already happens all the time, and especially in telecommunications. Interconnection is a core of telecommunications law everywhere.
Yeah, I think there is some confusion in this thread. eu-inc.org isn't an official source or anything, though von der Leyen did say "EU Inc" in her speech at Davos. The European Parliament specifically mentioned not liking "incorporated" because it was American terminology preferring "Societas Europaea Unificata" instead which is pretty funny.
