Great product!

It would be nice if Apple allowed people to choose how Mac virtual display windows were shown. I have a Vision Pro and I rather like the way it's implemented. From a UX perspective, I can't imagine trying to deal with hundreds of windows in AR space. The Vision Pro UI is good, but I'm nowhere near as fast as with a keyboard and mouse.

Spot on. As a racer, I can say this is mostly true. Although for me and many of the other racers I know, it's less about going deep into the optimization, sail choices, etc, and more about just being competitive. Racers don't always make good cruisers because they're always trying to go faster and push harder, whereas most cruisers want to slow down and enjoy the journey.

Most people vastly underestimate how difficult it is to start, run, and scale a profitable agency (dev shop, design studio, or similar). New business is the hardest part, and unless you're extremely well-networked, you'll soon run into problems.

The best advice I could give would be:

- Make sure you really want to do this. It's way harder than you think for reasons that have nothing to do with doing the actual billable work. (Legal, HR, payroll, management, new business, processes, etc.)

- Keep your costs as low as possible. Average agencies are in the 12-18% profit margin range. Agencies doing very well might be able to hit 25-35% or sometimes more.

- Become a recognized expert in one area.

- Use that expertise to promote and market your company to potential clients in that problem space.

- If you want a leg up on your competition, go hire someone like Blair Enns or David Baker to get you started on the right foot. (nobody does this, but it would save a lot of work in the long run if you can)

It's primarily an in-person program, delivered in one-week intensives. However, they went 100% remote for during the pandemic and apparently they are considering a hybrid option in the future.

+1 to this. Good program. Great faculty. Department does well in rankings.

That's the ghosting problem I referred to, although image retention is the accurate term. I never noticed that it was mostly the outer edges of the screen, but now that you mention it, the image persistence on mine seems to be mostly on the outer 2-4 inches of the screen.

Agreed. Not a dealbreaker, especially since it's such a great screen otherwise. Although given the price, it's a shame this problem exists.

I bought two LG Ultrafine 5K displays in 2016 and they're still going strong. They're good — probably the best affordable retina monitor option available, but not perfect. For example, I wish I could daisy chain, and there are occasional ghosting when changing from a contrasty/bright screen to a dark screen. I also ran into problems this year with my MBP maxing out CPU when running both displays at once — after 5 years without problems. Switching to one display solves the issue.

If Apple released an affordable pro level display with reasonably good specs, I'd make the jump.

I live a couple islands over from you. As a frequent sailor, I use Windy regularly before a race, but it's never completely accurate (PredictWind tends to be better). Great for looking at general trends and visualizing patterns. This area is tricky — lots of microclimates for the reasons you mentioned and it's almost impossible for a service like Windy to be completely accurate.
