Funding Circle, San Francisco

We're (seriously) building a better financial world! Our marketplace approach gives small businesses a fast, simple, and fair way to get the capital they need to continue to grow. We've lent over $1B globally, recently completed a $150MM funding round, and are investing heavily in technology.

We primarily develop in Clojure and Ruby (not so much Rails). We can do TN visa and H1B transfer and are focusing on growing our on-site team at the moment.

It would great to talk to people interested in working in Clojure(Script), React, Angular.js, and Mesos for frontend, backend, data science, or infrastructure roles to help us build a collaborative, professional, and diverse team.

You can reach me at rob@fundingcircle.com if you're interested in learning more.

It could be more readable if you use a placeholder variable

  family, _ = socket.peeraddr
Which is more clear to me, but maybe not as much as just using .first

Could you share some of these reasons? High rent, high salaries I'm sure, but I'd be interested to know what other reasons have.

Another nice job management tool is disown, which lets you log out of your session without killing the job (similar to starting the command with nohup)

I'm looking at building my company's CMS workflow with Jekyll so it's good to near this.

I'll have non developers creating and maintaining pages and posts, so I'm hoping I can build an easy workflow with just Jekyll and a bit of prose.io. I've not found any sort of site generator/convertor that's geared for use by non-developers.

It's unfortunate that when using IE, both this and supportdetails.com only give versions as specific as "Windows XP" and "IE 8", whereas I get more detailed version info using Chrome on OS X.

I'm trying to track down an IE issue and would love for our support team to get customers to use something like this. But we need more info to make it easier to reproduce the problem.

To participate in HN, you basically want to be sure to point out any logical fallacies, missing citations, and any possible reference to Godwin's Law, the Streisand effect, or the Dunning–Kruger effect.

Providing a reference for your joke doesn't really change much. I don't think you were downvoted because anyone thought your comment need citations, or because they weren't sure if it was actually supposed to be a joke.

Perhaps it was just a bit trite, and/or irrelevant.

This is probably good advice, and I think I'll give org-mode another try without trying to build it around someone else's setup.

I've been using emacs for years, but could never quite make an habit out of org mode. I think deft handling simple org files might be a good way to get started.

It's very frustrating knowing the police can do little to contain or manage the situation, and we're completely at the mercy of rioters as to what will happen next or when it will stop.

A group of 30-40 of them went up my street, smashing cars, and started congregating out front, all holding glass bottles -- this just when reports of homes being broken into started coming out. Absolutely horrifying, luckily something spooked them and they moved up the street.
