Is it me or is there a recent trend of more and more apple/steve jobs/ios threads? There seems to be so many of them, when ios6 came out there were quite literally a wall of related threads on the front page.

That's the nature of the business I'm afraid. But I have found some reliable hosts through the site and some very established hosts used to make offers before the siteowner left.

Webfaction is also good if you want to run a no hassle Django installation. I initially got an account when I was learning Django and there weren't many Django friendly shared hosts out there. I have kept it to this day as their hosting panel is still pretty useful. They also have a bunch of automatic installs for rails, cherrypy, pylons, pyramid, subversion and trac etc. I've since moved on to do it myself on VPS but I still think Webfaction offers something different with their "framework" application approach.

I think both sites have just gone down. :)

Maybe the PDF is designed for smaller screens . It looks better on an iPad or android tablet. I used the .mobi instead to wipe out the font anguish. ;-)

Reading the PDF version now. So far my main criticisms are:

Pretty ugly font for a manual.

Translation is a little iffy, bad spelling, bad grammar and strange sentence structure.

Graphics and diagrams are quite lossy and low resolution.

It could definitely do with another proofread or three.

But If you can get past these things it seems pretty thorough and has plenty of good info in there. Hopefully none of it was lost in translation.

I also donated and am happy to finally see it out there especially under creative commons.

How is that more realistic? People using Ubuntu as a search term does not accurately reflect install base.

They ruined a really impressive web application. Thanks to a HN recommendation I've fully gone over to Tiny Tiny RSS http://tt-rss.org/redmine/ which is quite similar to the old reader in many ways and self hosted. Click Settings > Import/Export, download OPML, then import OPML. Away we go.

If you google "ubuntu tour" with the fake firefox, you can get there, and then go deeper and deeper within each instance.

If you look a bit more closely you'll see that is not just an article on a website but a wiki powered by mediawiki. As such it is not that suited to design customisation especially the type of design you are referring to. That being said I would argue this sort of guide or reference is much more readable in a plain unembellished format. Content is king in this instance.

What's unfriendly about gnome and KDE? I've been running Linux Mint now for a couple of years as my primary dev machine in a windows network and the gui is top notch. Personally I find the OSX gui conventions a little screwy and awkward.

Perhaps they were wooed by appstore sales figures. The iPad is also locked down enough for those who want to have complete control over their IP.

I have tried literally every single one over the years. Considering it's made by a single developer development speed is breathtaking and he is always open to suggestions on the Forums.

I was a little wary of the new version after using ST1 for so long, but have finally switched and project management is now a breeze where it used to be a little clunky. Go to anything also rocks.
