I think so. The correct procedure would have been to assign another iCloud account and assign your self another PIN (lock it with your own PIN)... Then reformat it

This might take more time than my previous Teensy project "Attacking the EFI PIN Lock" but I do understand that there are people that don't want to lose the content of their hard drive so this mechanism might work for them.

TBH I would pay full price. I just want to have a laptop that comes with linux out of factory.

This is the same Arduino sketch I used to brute-force the EFI Lock but I have implemented a set of conditional loops to wait the 1, 5 and 15 minutes cycles that the iCloud Lock PIN implements. I still use the Teensy 3 for automate this attack which gets done with minimal intervention, just plug it and thats it.

This is specially useful for those who dont have an apple store nearby or those who just dont want to deal with "The Geniuses".

Initially I though this lock resided on the disk only, specially since it had a nice UI. I thought "this cant be the bios"

It is a link of this chains of bad decisions but I did not wanted the information to be recovered in any way.

Testdisk managed to recover most information except that some part of the GPT were corrupted.
