Another reason published CVEs isn't a great metric is that one of the largest contributors to the number of CVEs significantly increasing in the past couple years has been that the Linux kernel now submits almost all bugs as CVEs which wasn't the case before.

Agreed, it also means no/less distractions and maybe that's what is happening. I get close to the words-on-paper immersive feeling when using e-ink style tablets (like supernote which tries really hard to not be more than a journal). But just knowing I can interact with it makes it less immersive. Something about words on paper are static and the information in front of me isn't changing makes it feel more immersive.
Outside of the Federal Reserve issue, isn't a core component here the 2018 bank deregulation laws that weakened the rules so they wouldn't apply to banks the size of SVB (less than $250B in assets)? Dodd-Frank was put in in place for a reason after 2008 and crawling it back in form of the 2018 bank deregulation laws was a glaring mistake.

Not particular to the C language, but what are your opinions on build systems, particularly for the embedded space? There's a couple vendor specific embedded IDEs and toolchains and having to glue together make/cmake files to support all of them can be a pain.

NextDNS is great, set it up on all my devices a few back when there was a post on here about it. Uninstalled a few apps just from seeing the number of requests they were sending even when I didn't use those apps frequently.

9/80 schedules are more popular in defense, at least from what I've seen. There's some unintended consequences (to me) of it. PTO/holidays can get weird, do you get 9 hours of paid time? Do you get 8 and shift your hours? Its mostly a problem when teams have a mix systems and there isn't a standard.
When I was at LM a few years ago, some teams were on a different 9/80 pattern (different Fridays off), and some still on the regular 10/80 schedule. So on Fridays you basically had significantly less people in the office and it was never the person you needed to get work done. Basically made Monday to Thursday the regular working week with Friday being there if you really needed to get work done.
Think the different schedules was a combination of LM employees, employees that were in the union, and external contractors having different contract requirements.

We're currently still in the process on making the ARM® CryptoCell-310 embedded in the Nordic nRF52840 chip work to get hardware-accelerated cryptography. In the meantime we implemented the required cryptography algorithms (ECDSA, ECC secp256r1, HMAC-SHA256 and AES256) in Rust as a placeholder. Those implementations are research-quality code and haven't been reviewed. They don't provide constant-time guarantees and are not designed to be resistant against side-channel attacks.

Air bearings are expensive and have a very low clearance (talking about tens of microns). The lower clearance raises the issue of safety. If I remember correctly, to get that to be greater than tens of microns you need larger compressors and lower operating pressure inside the tube which increases costs and it tougher to maintain.
If you take a look at the SpaceX Hyperloop competition the teams moved away from using air bearings mostly due to the low clearances and the challenges it brought. Maybe on Mars it could be more realistic.

It has! I've been using Ubuntu on a thinkpad x1 carbon (2017) for almost a year. Battery life is between 6-8 hours everyday use including work. Probably see between 8-10 if I'm not doing any programming

There's definitely a lot of progress being made! When I was paying more attention to the field last year, Google's research team working on robotics had pushed out a really interesting paper [1] and some more recently [2].

I had switched to Wayland and it (sort of) supports fractional scaling system wide. It did work, its just some things end up being blurry (fonts are blurry) and that was too much for me. My temp workaround is using font scale at 1.4. Its good enough but I miss not having to worry about it with Wayland, especially with multiple monitors that have different resolutions. Some day Wayland support will be better, but I don't see it anytime soon.
