Hehe that's just in time, got rejected by YC today so... Still I think it is a major idea, you guys got any input as to get approved next time? I'm asking because I think I might have not stressed how big it is. Basically the idea was inspired by Clear, the todo app, because I was fed up how the GUI works on the iPhone. So I found a way how to create more time by pinching ala Clear. I later found out this gesture is like a Lego building block, it's universal. I've always went with a pro approach to GUIs, I think people are much smarter then we think and to me gestures are the way to go. Like gestures should be like the axioms. Pinching should not just zoom in but zoom in in different ways depending on the context. Sort of like operator overloading, using the same principles to do new stuff which makes sense. Any feedback appreciated and let me know why you got rejected too, make we can start like a help group :-) I'm serious!
I was asking if people should expect to be paid when contributing to OSS or how is the busines model set up?
Great news but will we be paid by karma now or how should it work this whole opensource thing?
Very good write up. Esp. about the identies framework. When you are feeling not really yourself it's time to explore! Best is when the sence of self dissapears, look how many friends you make then :-)
I once went to a course called Avater which helped me very very much over the course of about 11 years now. I don't want to propagate anything but their methods were very good. They are just excersizes which you do with your attention's focus, get it under control etc. I wanted to make an app for them once to have those great excersizes on my mobile phone. I also coach and get coached over skype regurlarly just to clean stuff up. Would be very cool to work on something like this.
Well you should always ask someone who has worked with it but lately I had to come up quickly with a phone formatter class. I didn't have a clue how it worked, no comments. So I start to rewrite some of it, run it see what happens. Then when I learned what the stuff did I renamed it so it made sense to me. Used real long variable names which were meaningfull not just tmp and temp. Can really recommend it and it was very fast.
You have two options; say what you like and what don't, get to know yourself, what you really want, talk about it. Say you are a real engineer not a code monkey. You want to build something great, not fool around. Tell them they're wasting just time by not being organised.
The second option is to still find what you really really want and find it, and quit.
Being in resistance is just wasting time sorry :-) Good luck!
