My house didn't play nicely with my Nest. I got a new Furnace and AC and had them install a Nest. It started acting weird. We replaced it with a low-tech Honeywell while trying to get it figured out. I then replaced the Nest thinking maybe it was faulty. I took a photo of the wire layout for the Honeywell and made sure I did the proper layout for the new Nest. It worked fine for a few days and then one day I came home to a 110 degree house! The Nest reported that things were 70-whatever. I then replaced it with a Wi-Fi Honeywell (not their Nest competitor) and that one has worked fine since. It was a very scary experience. I won't be trying a Nest again.

I really enjoy using this. While people seem to dislike the red and blue default, I enjoy it. I am not a big fan of the colors working together but I feel like it works the best for it's intended functionality of the choices you made available. I think this might make reading some things considerably more enjoyable for me. Thanks!

That's not always true. Some ad models just care that a user may have seen an ad. A lot of sites you can't just "pay them money."

Is there a way to maybe not worry about productivity measurements? While in school, I didn't need to know how productive I was, I just needed to get stuff done. I either did or I didn't. I was given what was thought as manageable amounts of work but for some, it was too much and for others it wasn't enough.

In work, if I am given what is considered the next most important thing, what will those measurement tools get us? Maybe, at best, an idea if we want more people on the project but those projections can be rudimentary at best. Couldn't we just eyeball it and come to similar conclusions?

Productivity measurement reminds me of stock market analysis. Previous performance isn't indicative of future success. Projects are generally different enough that each one will have new challenges to figure out and learn.

I find it interesting that the Japanese feel there is a need to fax during a natural disaster. However, after reading the article and seeing how useful the they still find the fax machine, maybe it is important to be able to fax during a natural disaster.

iOS and WP8 both cannot pull in custom phone number fields from Google Contacts.

For example, some people I have a mobile number, but then I also have a "Google Voice" number with them. When pulling that contact in to my iPad, it loses the Google Voice number.

Does Columns keep the custom free text fields? I assume iOS and WP8 don't because they both pull in Google's contacts using Outlook.

Thinking in more detail about it, Because I am starting insurance halfway through the year, I will actually have around 13 pay periods rather than 26. So that shows the chart in a different light as well. Solution 2500 isn't the clear winner at 13 pay periods that it was at 26.

That is true but even if you have to shell out $5000 up front once, you are still paying $2000 less by the end of the year. So it's like your risk is $2000 greater but you save it by the end of the year, even if that risk was actualized.

Also, it's important to look yearly rather than just as separate events because the out of pocket max resets yearly rather than per event.

I don't think it will matter. Google misspelled googol. Flickr misspelled flicker (that one was probably on purpose though). If N Reduce hits it big, no one will care about that and they will recognize it as a company that works.

Edit: I just noticed Chrome doesn't have googol in it's spell checker dictionary. I wonder if that is intentional.

I personally feel that there should be a clear line between real life and art/entertainment. While I completely agree that we should not objectify women in real life, I feel that an artist or an entertainer should have the liberties to create any imaginary world they want.

I found that one odd as well. Maybe the author felt that it would set a specific tone for that person's relationship with the rest of the team?

I followed that link before I posted. I was unable to determine what 10^4 and 10^3 represented and the link did not explain it in a way for me to understand. Obtu was able to explain it to me.

The points won't be anonymous. You need to supply bank information. Sure, someone could fake that, but there are plenty of routes to go if you are going to fake information. It isn't like this route gives you one of those debit Visa cards or mails an address cash.

I am not saying this thinking that the site is potentially damaging. Websense is pretty dumb about most of the things it chooses. I just wanted to let HNPoints know that because it blocks people from seeing it from behind a Websense filter.

Probably not. There were two reasons why I didn't add multiplayer. First (and most importantly) I felt that their wouldn't be a tension between the players. It would be hard for people to yell over each other to try to get others to do what they want to do. Secondly, I didn't think it would add enough value to delay the game longer.

However, if the game gets popular enough and enough people want it, I would be willing to add it.

That's a bummer. I wonder if it's because of the laws around games in Australia.

Microsoft sells "points" 80 points equals $1 USD. It isn't really a currency. You can't trade it to dollars and you can only give them to other people via gift cards.

My graphic designer buddy from work helped clean up my original art. He didn't have a good chance to try his own thing because he came into the process late. Originally, I was going to do it all on my own but he expressed interest in helping after seeing an play test of the game.
