Agreed, if I have to do a research on Google and Quora, then the landing page failed.

I need to be told immediately why Harvey is killer and there are things you can do with it that you can't with Linux, at least not easily.

The only standout feature according to the summary is "simplified sys call". Boy, that's worth dropping Linux immediately! Not.

I think the only thing Chuck is missing is a few 20-somethings hackers, bent on solving an 'impossible' problem with his chips.

Love the guy and his passion for its chips, but this 144-computer chip looks like a solution in search of a problem: what is trying to solve? How's the inter-core communication handled? On the other hand, creating weird chips like these, just because you can, is awesome and stimulating a hacker's mind.

I empathize, but at the same time, 5 min. of slide browsing would not drive the point home. People are trying to skimp when they should invest the time. Relax, reserve yourself an hour and enjoy the talk. This is a good one, and getting signals through sound, visual and text will leave a better imprint in our brains.

I feel smarter having watched this talk: it gives you tools to think about thinking as you come up with new designs. Also love how Rich manages to find the right metaphors to illustrate abstractions, he's a great communicator.

I wish the Nova program on Wiles was available...

(Scroll to end of interview). Different field, but I was struck by some of the similarities between Wiles' daily and nightly obsession with Fermat, and Rich Hickey's Hammock Driven development. Note that I'm not trying to imply that Rich Hickey is the new Wiles, although he's no doubt a truly brilliant individual.

Simply, I was pondering about how those two guys formalize their own way of thinking.

There is value in thinking about HOW to think and sometimes that means NOT actively thinking, but letting your brain find the connections on its own.

The daily obsession, the 'loading' of the brain, and eventually, after a long time, that, seemly serendipitous, epiphany.

Do some of you have that secret 'quiet time' to think about deep problems that you obsess over?

Agreed. And for those who pull the Java applet as the perfect counter-example, they need to ask themselves: does it take this long to start an Android app? Of course not! Because you can use the JVM in many different ways to eliminate the load time. In a way, one could imagine Android has a better example of how to mix OS/Web/Multi-Architecture(CPU)

Great idea. That guy deserves it. Though I suspect he would be too modest to accept the money since he GNUed all his creations.

This is an amazing feature! (sarcasm) Thanks to it, I got accidentally cc'ed emails from people who obviously had no intention to cc me. One of them was a pretty private conversation. I think this new feature is a monumental UX screw-up. It's simply to easy to accidentally click on the suggested link.

The National Dairy Council: sounds like an official, government-backed organization. It turns out to be a brand owned solely by the American Dairy Association. Always this tangential choice of words that don't quite hide, don't quite tell the truth. Wrap this in a seemingly serious research paper, and you've got yourself a new "fact" that the average Joe sure can't debunk.
