I remember running into a couple guys/geeks in the late 90s SV that had a variation on a fantasy involving them white knighting Chelsea into a torrid love affair. I think the mocking of her appearance earlier in the decade made her seem more attainable. Also, she was going to Stanford, so obviously she's into nerdy dudes.

I specifically recall overhearing a guy giving another advice about where she might likely appear on campus and at what time. One had a rather detailed plan for how he'd approach her. It was a weird time.

It could be a leftover hood from the electric chair. I imagine it's more important to cover the face of someone being electrocuted to death than being gassed, at least from the observer's standpoint.

When designers make a new font, there are often rough edges and little nubs where the letter was attached to the type sheet. If you pay extra, the designer will file down the edges until the letters are mostly smooth. You may have heard of these finished letters called "Sanded Serifs."

I definitely understand, I should publish that one article as 4-5 smaller ones. I think my next post in the series will be those examples + commentary. ie. Screenshots of various landers from around the web with notes on what works and what doesn't. I'm hesitant to do that as I don't have any real data on other peoples conversion rates, so I could descend into speculation pretty quickly.

I have a bunch of annotated screenshots I was going to include, but the post was already a million words long and running late.

Good point. Not sure where I picked up that phrasing - especially since the wikipedia article linked by the phrase specifically says:

Edit: I updated that section. This part and the next part of the series are the ones I'm most anxious about because of all the math and the questions that have right and wrong answers.

There are some options out there, from landing page themes on sites like themeforest, to plugin systems like premise and Saas apps like Unbounce to whatever you would call Prosper202 to... well, there's a lot of stuff out there.

That said, twitter bootstrap has most of those elements, even down to the hero-unit already built in, so I guess it would qualify for that too.

Regarding your final point, I agree. I plan on marketing to a specific segment (at least at one time.) At this point I've just been asking different business owners for feedback. The product is a turn-key (no config, no maintenance) customer relationship product with measurable marketing metrics. I'll have a demo available in a week.

Restaurants are actually my ideal customers, and were my original use case, but I have the impression that they are a difficult sell so I'm keeping my eyes open.

I'm really trying to imagine my way through the sales process now to help inform the product design.

Now they'll know what we were into 5 years ago!
