I started as a hacker--coder not cracker--from childhood with basic/assembler/c and only one undergrad comp sci course and often rely on my MSCS to lend authority to my knowledge of computers. It can't hurt to get a MIS masters instead or a masters in engineering management and lean heavily on the basics; Algorithms and Data Structures, Theory of computation, and operating systems/computer architecture. You can study simulation, ai or numerical analysis at your leisure using a MOOC. Stanford is great, so is the FastAi course. You will not need a ton of math beyond diff-eq and linear algebra, heavier on the linear algebra.

Where does she think this money is coming from? The poop fairy? Any raise in the cost of labor will be reflected in a price raise. I give you 22/hr now, but eggs are $7 a dozen. You can code with the cheapest Chromebook available. Everything can be in the cloud, including your Ryzen desktop via VNC or RDP--linux/Mac or windows respectively. I had a team that did all of its dev work in our VMware internal cloud and then pushed production into the amazon cloud. You can, and I have done, good work on a Samsung Dex based phone plugged into a monitor with keyboard and mouse because you can either use cloud based resources or your own 'internal' cloud based systems via the web.
