Seems quite odd to use OpenRouter as “proof” that open weights models won. If you’re using OpenRouter, you’re already looking to bypass frontier models. To suggest there’s no longer a tradeoff simply isn’t true. But this isn’t the first time I thought Mozilla was a less than trustworthy source of information.

That’s not how it works. Investors don’t mandate operational decisions. That’s for… operators. What they do ask for, in exchange for their investment, are things like revenue growth or certain margins.

You can crap on those investors. The answer then is to never take their money. But without money, the job probably wasn’t created in the first place. So the result is the same.

By the way, ever work alongside a really crappy non-executive and wonder how on earth they’re keeping their job? I sure have.

The scale of the numbers is exceptional, but the shape is pretty typical for a high-growth, scale startup with a big TAM where a winner can take most. And compute, supply constrained as it is for the foreseeable future, is absolutely a moat. I come away from this thinking OpenAI is actually in very good shape given that revenue is growing fast enough that break-even has a clear path without doing anything draconian.
