I don’t know that this is something specific to workplaces. I think anywhere you have a hierarchy and incentives you’ll see people perform to those incentives. But, I am not a behavioral psychologist, so maybe there is something special to “corporations”. It could be that corporations have a lot more incentive to perform for.
I wish we could get back to a “mom and pop” software market. Itch.io feels like it’s doing a lot of work for indie software that used to just be everywhere and easy to stumble onto.
You would purchase an AI tax stamp! Just make sure you’re being honest about your token usage. Or maybe we can have AI licenses! Sky’s the limit when you can just make up policy on the internet for free.

This is awesome. I love that people are working on this. I wish for the day I can own a box that boots up, and gives me the 90s-00s internet experience without needing to ask permission from a bunch of middlemen.
I took a plunge into learning about mesh networks, specifically because I love the idea of p2p/decentralized systems of communication. To be honest, I was surprised to find that my expectations for “where we are at” with this type of technology was pretty off-base. For some reason I thought by now it would be straightforward to do a little more than text messaging over a truly public and decentralized off-internet mesh. Maybe I’ve missed some things in my search (still learning!) and someone can correct my understanding.
I came up as a software requirements analyst before the weird transition between business analyst to product owner to product manager to technical product manager. But living in requirements for 15+ years really gave me a leg up on these “let’s go back to requirements!” efforts.
Maybe a little broad. I have co-founders who are interested in emigrating to the USA, hoping our company could be a boon to the process. Is it?
I don’t have the right configuration of equipment to use an app like this, but does anyone know why this needs to be a service-driven app? What piece of functionality requires a server to track your health?
I think maybe part of the argument is that Apple’s closed system was a benevolent dictator-style ecosystem that was actually benevolent. Until it wasn’t.
Or, to put another way, “never attribute to malice what can be explained by ignorance”

When I closed my screen and came back on this article I was very confused and thought I was accidentally transported backward through time.
We work together pretty well. From a 20,000 foot level maybe it looks like chaos and like a central guiding hand would make everything better. But, two people working together is easier to direct than 100,000 people (or more!). Unpacking this gives us the wonders of the economics and behavioral psychology. I’d say, all things considered, we could be doing a hell of a lot worse on cooperation with each other.

This is all very ambitious. I am not exactly sure where someone is supposed to start. With the connections to Pear and Tether I can see where the lines meet, but is the idea that someone takes this and builds…Skynet? AI Cryptocurrency schemes? Just a local LLM chat?

You didn’t sell out, you bought in! Really excited to follow this journey, Pi has been my favorite piece of software to use in the last six months.
It’s a little tough these days. With AI and scraping, running an open webapp/website is now more expensive than ever before. My friends and I have launched a product in the last few months and decided to focus on mobile first and wait to develop a webapp simply because we couldn’t feel we could optimize the costs of open webapp while we have so few resources.
I think Cloudflare has picked up that code velocity is only good if you can recruit users to a new open project, and have solid maintainers to keep the project going long term. Just from passive observance it feel like Cloudflare’s engineering team is chockful of seasoned maintainers. They then have a great social following already. So, code velocity, plus audience, plus maintainers, means you maybe can capture a lot of open projects under your umbrella while people are still trying to figure out how to fiddle with legacy software and AI. Meanwhile, “new is always better” puts pressure on legacy user bases. Finally, you allow these things to hook into your magnanimous global app development platform, and boom you have got it made in the shade.
It’s good to know that the ethical line is some amount of human brain cells. Not too much, not too little. The perfect, ethical amount.

I wonder, if I was surrounded by wealth in the same way, if I would schedule talks on my wacky ideas. The blind encouragement of insurmountable wealth must be intoxicating.
Are these lectures available for anyone to look over or is it only for paying customers? I feel like if it was public it probably has the same weight as the Left Behind books did in the early 2000s.
Making friends as an adult, especially starting from zero, is a universal struggle, so try to avoid any negative self-talk or other things that may compound your loneliness. The usual advice works, but like all advice it only works when we’re ready for it to work. I wish I could offer more than platitudes, but you sound like you have a decent self-support system already, and maybe are just temporarily lacking in confidence.
