If we are all honest, it seems to be the case - most of the time:

- Refactoring (Sometimes starting again.. this is rarely starting from scratch as there would have been some insights and personal design decisions garnered from the previous experience) - Specificity (It is heavily influenced by energy which also is different depending time of day or on the individual level)

At the end of the day, it takes taste + experience of the user to make anything of notable complexity(architecture) with AI.(For now and the nearest future at least).

I find reading articles as this gives me a renewed sense of agency as a technologist and my growing list of passions.

A solid thank you to Lalit Maganti for sharing and the better HN community. I found a lot to steal reuse from the material/banter.

  - Analogy: Egoism is a single-threaded “selfish” algorithm; altruism adds threads for others’ benefit. Data leans toward a hybrid model.

But deep down, it’s not just about me. Crafting something that users love or that makes their lives easier? That’s the real magic. It’s a mix of selfish thrill and selfless impact, like a perfectly balanced commit.

Resonates big time! At the end of the day, this isn't a full-proof science - it's an art. Req-con-fin(Requires continuous finessing).

I also assume, the project revolved around many roles and as you mentioned, the project was iteratively built around user feedback.

NLM disrupted the space and I know just like with the early days of bard/gemini this will only get insanely better; UI/UX especially.

This could be a component logic; a row of drop downs for customizing the UI and a good examples are color and grid count. This could even be a toml/json config file that can be imported/exported.

My own addition is ability to import samples from my own device.

Did a full-day deep dive into SQLite a while back; funny how one tiny database runs the whole world—phones, AI, your fridge, your face... and like, five people keep it alive.

The maximum size database would be 4294967294 pages at 65536 bytes per page or 281,474,976,579,584 bytes (about 281 terabytes).

Usually SQLite will hit the maximum file size limit of the underlying filesystem or disk hardware long before it hits its own internal size limit.

Kudos to you and the journey. I appreciate your honesty honestly about giving up on open source alternative for a quite cheap alternative for something you get to keep as your own is not a bad tradeoff.

I believe that too.

Writing is one of my tools for taming my ADHD tendencies. I have journals of different sizes and when I am in the zone, I capture the moment in my own words and in my own way. I draw lines and art on my notes and just scanning a few lines on another day instantly immerses me back in the moment when the ideas/words/thought hit me.

For those who type better than they write, I don't see any reason to not do that, even though for me, it's pen on paper.

We're all different and I am a strong believer of the idiom that goes "One man's food..."

I'm curious to hear your take on this. Do you think new, simple sustainable content models will emerge to support the diverse content the current web offers, or are we heading for a significant consolidation of information where only the largest players can survive?

I am thinking along the lines of a new open protocol for for-profit web content, content creators could even be paid on the DNS level. Technical users can roll their own SSCP(simple-sustainable-content-protocol(s)) linked with a blockchain wallet or other and every user's browser will have a SSCP wallet for content spends.

Spot-on! Nigeria/Africa in general embrace/reject people as they are, rarely pathologizing differences. We're not huge on formal psychology or therapists here [0], so spiritual and religious leaders [1] often step in to fill that gap - counseling couples, mediating family disputes, and offering guidance on some personal struggles. Mostly with a spiritual/cultural lens. In my opinion, it's better than nothing. Sometimes being heard alone helps untangle some deeply rooted misalignment.

What's striking is how individualized it all is; what works for one person can be the absolute opposite for another. Caffeine, for instance, is a game-changer for me as it helps me cope, prime myself, and zone in without the jitters, but the article calls it "complicated," noting side effects for some (especially on meds). Never been on meds so I cannot relate. I had no idea about white flour falling under those simple carbs to minimize, but sugar I've already been keeping low-key for energy stability.

As someone from Nigeria who's self-diagnosed with ADHD (my brain switches gears on the spectrum, and I've learned to cope without formal help), reading this thread hits different.

Here, access to stimulants like Adderall or alternatives are expensive to be viable to the average household (if there is fore-knowledge, which is undocumented), doctors rarely diagnose ADHD in adults (that kind of access is on the premium side, so many have zero idea).

I self-medicate with coffee and green tea to get that dopamine hit, and mix in novelty tricks (gamifying tasks) to keep my monkey brain engaged. But the cultural stigma? Folks just call it laziness or blame "village people" (supernatural enemies).

It's exhausting, but I've leaned into the positives—like my ability to hyperfocusing on creative work for hours.

US folks, your bureaucracy sounds brutal, but at least diagnosis is an option. Anyone else from outside the West dealing with this?

Been a linux user since 2016 when I found an Ubuntu 16 installation CD in a drawer wirh old books. The thing for me is having ctrl+v paste without formatting. (If I need to retain formatting, I will gladly do ctrl+shift+v)

Maybe it's just me but, I'd gladly scroll endlessly looking at pictures of old keyboards / HID devices. (I use a Fellows KU-9938 Split Keyboard and a Kensignton)

You can be technologically brilliant and at the same time not dialled in to those kind of social/people dynamics.

I came to that realization rather late. Now, I reflect often to optimize for this.

I suppose it's related to game theory and I am of the opinion that it's not spoken/written about enough.

This move feels inevitable. I expect we'll come to see an all-time high in "vibe-coded" apps and services/products built with surface-level understanding by creators and used by people with even less technical awareness.

Most developers in this new wave don't fully grasp the systems they're building, and end-users operate in total opacity. I have personally used AI to generate code scaffolds, and spend hours debugging edge cases, printing GitHub issues, and feeding API docs back into the system to stair it right enough times that I end up understanding a lot more what it is I plan on implementing as I reach a solid implementation. The average user wouldn't even know where to start with that.

Google's policy isn't an overreach; more like a reaction to the coming tsunami of superficially functional but fundamentally fragile tools. This is just the first domino. Expect more platform-level interventions as poorly understood tech stacks meet real-world consequences.

The era of "move fast and break things" is colliding with domains where broken things ruin lives. I wouldn't want any family members/close friends getting to swallow the latter pill.
