No Cookie for You 6 years ago

I started using Cookie Auto Delete extension with Firefox. Now I just accept all and the extension takes care of removing the cookies as soon as I close the tab. Logging in again and again on the regular sites is not even an annoyance a with a password manager.

Revive apprenticeships - where learner goes to master and learns directly from the one who practices the skill on a daily basis. In modern wold, this responsibility should rest on tech giants, who should have dedicated apprenticeship programs; and they should pay apprentices an honorarium for investing their time in studying their area of their, instead of their competitors.

For some reason, I don't know/understand, this responsibility got shifted to taxpayer.

That's a completely different thing. Purpose of school education is to nurture a human child into a member of society, who understands her rights and duties; posses the knowledge and tools to exercise her rights, and discharge her duties. University has nothing to do with this.

Quran and Hadith, devoid of their historical context, leave them open to application as required, to safeguard the interests of the ruling elite. It's all about power and organised religion is one of the most potent tool to keep masses in check.

+1 for Spacemacs. Former vim user, now using smacemacs for past few months.

I found a number of things just work way better in emacs than in vim. For example, web-mode was a revelation for me. I could never get vim to get syntax right in mixed HTML-JS files.

Ability to edit very large files with ease was another one in favour of emacs. Vim would freeze up for a seconds or two while saving even half a megabyte file.

helm and family blew my mind away.

Another win spacemacs is it does not hide default emacs functionality. All default emacs keyboard shortcuts would always work, so learning vanilla emacs is still helpful.

Once I got to know spacemacs shortcut layout, it was surprisingly intutive.

(YMMV)

It's difficult to imagine the shock and stress your must be carrying on you shoulders at the moment.

- Keep doing whatever you are doing, normally. Nothing changes in the routine.

- Change only things that will affect your mental and physical health positively. Seek professional counseling and familial moral support.

- Will to live. I cannot stress how important this one is. One of my acquaintances, given 15 - 30 days by doctors in his early 40s, survived 25 years, married off his children, retired from government job at 58, and lived peaceful later years. I personally think his will to live was the primary factor.

- Solitude has healing properties, but don't isolate yourself generally. Try to stay in the company of people who make you happy and calm and stay away from people who constantly keep talking about your predicament in a way that will bring your mood down.

- Start treatment, as soon as possible.

My prayers with you!

Less promises, more delivery, on time.
I am a web application developer specializing in Python, Django, and related technologies(open and enthusiastic in exploring other technologies). I have very good experience in developing highly data driven applications. I have also developed high-traffic web apps for local government projects(details available on request). I am also well experienced in developing content driven websites.

Contact me at hi@mirnazim.org

PS. I am also in touch with 2 more developers and a killer UI designer. Team expansion should not be problem.

If you are planning to enter Django world, it's always good to know Python well.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Python![1] explains a number of Python related things which beginners(in my experience and opinion) generally either tend to overlook. You do not need to read it all at once. Chapters can almost be read independently and in no particular order.

Secondly, go through Python Ecosystem - An Introduction[2](shameless plug) once. .

Comment got down votes, not because the commenter was right or wrong, but for the rhetoric commentary that basically does not contribute anything constructive to the discussion. It's sort of an I told you so rhetoric.

It doesn't have to be, but at the same time it is not a issue of "hurting the sentiments" at all.

As I mentioned in my other comment: From religious POV, a fasting Muslim actually gets extra reward when other people eat in front of him. There are numerous incidents from authenticated Islamic history that show when a fasting Muslim was offered food, he/she would refuse saying "I am fasting and they(Muslims and non Muslims alike, even Prophet himself) would continue eating.

Such problems generally stem from ignorance and [it pains me to say] "I am the saviour of Islam" complex of [some]Muslims as a direct result of ignorance.

[dead] 13 years ago

Hmm. If he is being prosecuted for teasing fasting Muslims with food, it is just idiotic and with absolutely no legal precedence from authentic Islamic history. (Yes, I am a fasting Muslim too)

Problem with "hurting the sentiments" style cases everywhere is that usually there is absolutely no guidelines or legal framework on what constitutes "hurting the sentiments" and it boils down to the men/women judging the case.

[dead] 13 years ago

Only Muslims from eastern countries(India, Pak, Malaysia(duh), etc. consider it offensive. From purely legal POV, there is no precedence from authentic Islamic history on people being punished for eating in front of fasting Muslims. On the contrary, there are a number of precedences where fasting Muslims were offered food, and they would refuse saying "I am fasting" and the other people(Muslims and non Muslims) would simply continue eating.

From religious POV, a fasting Muslim actually gets reward when others are eating in front of them.

[dead] 13 years ago

You insulted him by showing apathy towards his religiously held beliefs for a just law and proportionate punishment for the crime and his dislike for mob justice as you proposed in your earlier post.

----

icebraining, I couldn't have used better words than those.

[dead] 13 years ago

This is exactly the kind of emotional ranting, that has created a negative opinion against Muslims.

Assuming he/she is 100% wrong in what he/she did, why should the punishment be more than the crime? Why outcast? Isn't doing the sentence enough? And if it's not enough, then the damn law needs fixing.

[dead] 13 years ago

"posted religiously-insensitive photograph" is a very vague statement. Many questions come to mind.

- What is the nature of photographs?

- Were you exposing some kind the truth and got caught up by legal loopholes or an inherently unjust law in your country?

- Did you knowingly break a law which has existed in your country for a long time?

- Does the nature of your photographs insults someone's faith and or religion directly, knowingly, or purposefully? Or was it so subtle that you could have done it unknowingly?

- Could your postings promote hatred and/or violence against a specific group of people in the society?

- Is you SaaS startup related to the exposure of photographs? Were your postings directly as a results of your startup?

Many more questions can be raised and I think not many can help you without a clear understanding of the issue. At the very least anyone who might want to jump in to help would at least want to clearly understand the connection between your legal issues and your startup.

That said, without clear understanding of what you actually did, I have no right to assume who among the parties involved is right and who is wrong.

If you are willing and if it's possible without putting you in more trouble than you already have on your hands, please share a few more details about the issue. You would be surprised how much help communities like HN can provide you, given proper details.

PS. If legal precedence from authentic Islamic history is accepted in the courts in your country(which should be). Feel free to get in touch with me privately and I will do my best to help you find authentic Islamic precedence that might help you in your case - but of course, only if you are comfortable with it.

We, in Indian subcontinent, have been using fans to disperse mosquitoes as long as I can remember. I have never tried it outdoors but it works like a charm for indoors.
