Yeah kind of an interesting journey. We went from people writing content for people, to bots writing content for people, to people curating content for bots (ultimately for people). The only permutation left is bots curating/writing content for bots and people are consuming only bot-generated content. In a way we are partially there since some content that was in these models was written by bots.

The irony is that a lot of people on this earth have opinions already formed by bots and AI without knowing it

AirBNB has really compounded the problem - another reason houses are being treated as purely an investment by people who don't live in them. Even worse they are off the rental market.

That would actually be a pretty amazing thing to recreate the pyramids relatively close by as modern structures and replicate it so people could experience everything in it.

There's a ritual to straight razor and traditional single-blade safety razor (what I use now) that is compelling in modern times when everything tells you to shave off minutes from every single thing in your life so you can free up your time. Seemingly this means just more time for internet browsing and things that have no impact on your life but I digress. The daily or semi-weekly ritual that takes time, attention and care is relaxing. I stopped using a straight razor since I couldn't get the edge as sharp as I'd like to but I may pick it up again once kids are older. I moved onto purchasing a $20 classic single-blade safety razor about 4 years back and now buy the razors in bulk. Can be very cheap depending on where you buy them. For the ones I buy it's probably $10 a year if that since I only shave every 3 days or so and a carton of 100 blades lasts a year. Does require 2 passes though but doing it right with shaving cream and brush is something I've come to enjoy.

Indeed. I don't even see this as a bad thing - it means you pick the best option given your shifting criteria which is what we should be doing. Blindly doing one or the other makes no sense. I don't particularly enjoy the blog posts that are hyperbolic (not necessarily this one) - both AWS and other things can both be simultaneously a good choice for any given company.

Why is having an impact on discourse important? It should not be the job of any media to alter arguments, viewpoints etc... it's job is to provide the facts for people to make their own opinions. The fact that we think media should be able to shape opinion is really the main problem here. Cable news chases profits and profits come from viewership which gets us into that negative feedback loop. Take away money and a lot of problems disappear.

This is good. Instead of taking profits from restaurants and drivers they'd be forced to be smarter/more agile elsewhere. A lot of restaurants are shook down for participation in the first place where they have no control over the delivery experience so regulating a fee cash cow seems like a good move. Also I don't buy free-market self-regulation at all. It maximizes profits not "for the greater good" things.

It's not much different from compute power increases over the same time period. Once more is the norm then less becomes inadequate.

Search is the only correct answer. SO may be the first click often but limiting your problem solving to that is not something an experienced dev will do.

Having only cursory knowledge of this space I'll take a stab at an answer: every consumer of a company that uses crypto internally. AWS doesn't provide any real utility for people outside of the AWS space except for consumers of companies that use AWS. Feel free to point out I'm wrong as again I don't follow this space in-depth.

Because the U.S. still has not even come close to mastering the separation of church and state which means depending on where you live it will confront you frequently whether you like or not. Burying your head in the sand does nothing if you believe the premise of that separation is virtuous. I am not atheist myself but I have yet to see anyone I know be vocal about their atheism, yet I know many that are vocal about their religious views. I am curious where you see vocal atheists enough that they annoy you?

Let's applaud any company that tries different compensation methods as the more varying methods there are the more likely it is for a candidate to find the place that fits best for them. There is no blanket "best compensation method" - the best is variety.

For me I have found if I really think hard about the situations I find myself in dreams they are correlated to thoughts or things I've heard/seen or experienced throughout the day. Suppression of thoughts would manifest itself certainly in a dream but for me specifically it's garbage collection. I've also found that it's fairly easy to recollect what prompted that dream scenario since presumably it's still at the forefront of the my memory circulating around my brain if you will. While this is my own judgement, if accurate for other people, I'm not sure your assertion that "They aren’t scientific or rational at all" would be correct.

I don't agree with the sentiment. You cannot be responsible for people's opinions/reactions for actions you take that you feel are right. Moreover, by placating the very people you would upset otherwise by punitive actions you send a signal that their actions can go unpunished and further entrench the idea that they are right in their actions which is much more dangerous than a temporary outrage.

Out of curiosity do theses things come about as a result of trying to monetize and not by initial design or do these companies actually intend to turn into a data-mining platform from the get go? I assume the former but I wouldn't be surprised of the latter.

In my experience knowing when to refactor and when to not is a main distinguishing factor for a senior vs junior role but seniors generally account for that in their planning and knowing when to push some additional time to prune the code. Similarly identifying when over-engineering is occurring is the flip side of that coin. One is preventative and one is reactive but they are both important.

I beg to differ on your second point - at my company we've fully embraced AWS and putting vendor lock-in issues aside, the end result is focusing more on the application and less on the minutiae of operational issues which is a big win. This makes things much more interesting since you can get there faster and consequently take on more impactful projects in the same timeframe. This in general is a boon for developers in my experience.
