I would think they'd be more interested in tangible assets.
They're cost effective and environmentally friendly, however dropping one on the floor of a public restroom is quite the faux pas.
Wasn't aware the two were distinct.
Awkwaaaard.
I think its pretty common that when students are divided by "ability", especially later on in middle or high school, it can weigh pretty heavily on the students in the "lower ability" classes. Its essentially saying "we don't expect much but you need to be here."
This system works out very well for bright, academically inclined students, sure. But it sets a structure of expectations that don't motivate what could possibly be great talent, but we wouldn't know because they didn't bubble in the right answer.
It would be entirely fair to say that sexism is also on the decline, I don't dispute that. For example, my father can no longer sell me for 3 goats (without my consent, of course). But this doesn't make it a non-issue, just as violence is not a non-issue. Just because a program is throwing out fewer errors doesn't mean its fixed.
If only there were some sort of world wide network of information where women could write about their experiences and share them with total strangers. I guess we'll have to leave it up to the occult for now.
Rhode Island always keeps it classy. Though I'm honestly surprised it wasn't Dunkin Donuts.
Its only a matter of time before someone decides to upload videos of people rejecting them at bars with accompanying "woe is me" commentary and resulting subreddit.
No need, you can float :)
Its like you took the words out of my fingers.
Not so much Devil's Advocate as bringing up a valid point. Most if not all social struggles are intersectional.
I think its a bit unfair to compare our parents generation (boomers) to ours (millennials, arguably).
The first thing that comes to mind is that, at least in my social circle, no one has a land line. We move a lot. We change cell phone numbers (carrier problems, relationship issues, who knows).
Its arguable that a FB presence is actually more stable than a physical presence for some social groups. Its not an all encompassing solution for human interaction by any means, but "worth it" is a very subjective term.
I'm the opposite. I can eat at a nice restaurant alone and enjoy my thoughts and not think twice about it. When I see someone else eating alone, my heart breaks and I contemplate asking them if they would like company.
Yes, but its the anomalies that are most likely worth meeting up with ;)
Not that I agree with Bradley Mannings punishment, but I think a key difference is that he was not a civilian.
My favorites are the "mens rights activists" who completely shit on women, complain about how "nice" they are, wear ill fitting fedoras, and then wonder why no one responds :)
There have to be normal people on OKC somewhere, right? ...right?
Honestly it depends. Personally, I don't engage with people who want children because thats just an inevitable nail in the coffin. Everyone has their own red flags, there's no science to it really.
I only get roughly 1 response for every 7 messages I send, so clearly I'm not the only picky one, and its not just the ladies holding out ;)
You would be surprised. As a female who occasionally uses OKC to meet people, I've had the joy of being offered a price. Straight up.
And yes, it was too low.
When you see "replies selectively", go for it. We're not the trolls. We're the eyerollers waiting for an actual conversation starter.
I was optimistic when I learned that GIMP would open .psd files. Then I noticed the distinct lack of a slice tool. Googling found me no useable alternatives other than "crop, save, and ctrl+z".
May be trivial for those who don't work on front end development, but a huge selling point for Adobe.
I plan on going with a coworker or two. I'll be the girl with a half shaved head and circuit board plugs, come say hi! (Though this is Providence, I may need to be more specific ;])
Sweet. It said Betaspring on the EventBrite page, but I didn't see an address anywhere. Not that I'm above wandering around downcity following people with laptop bags ;)
Thanks!
Wow, something happening in Providence! I can't help but notice the site doesn't list an actual location, does anyone know where this is taking place?
This post is actually better than most. Granted its only been an hour.
Its fair to point out that going out of your way to get a female speaker simply because she is female is not the way to go about things. I don't think this is what the article is proposing so much as making a valiant effort to have a more diverse panel.
Frankly, to all out boycott all male panels seems counter productive and a bit extreme. Some conferences have an open call for presenters, and sometimes women just don't apply. At what point is that the fault of the organizer? I can see invitations posing an issue, but not all conferences operate that way.
Aside from the obvious "this looks like the new myspace and windows 8 mashed together", I would be curious to see how this concept would fare with what people ACTUALLY post to Facebook. People with no concept of image quality or resolution. People I call my friends :)
Children, like puppies, also don't stay that way forever. I hate this idea that children don't grow up into flawed, possibly terrible people on occasion. No love is "invincible".
They mine purchase data. Any store with a "customer rewards" card does as well.
They should. I recently switched from a Droid X running Gingerbread to a newer Android phone, and it was super easy to grab all of my instagram photos (and everything else, really) out of the files directory.
I have the same concern, but having no family medical history (closed adoption) makes the new price point rather tempting, despite the inevitable anxiety.
