At least from some smaller marketing companies I know that isn't necessarily true. They often have Gemini or Copilot and Claude nowadays and before Claude it was ChatGPT.

The moat is way smaller than with Office or Gsuite because they feed data into the chat interface and it gives them an answer. The moat for Gsuite and Office is higher because you have to move all your data and reorganize it. Oh and everyone has to learn how to use the new software clients.

So AI could generate a great lyrics video.

But why spend the same amount of money on AI instead of humans? My guess is that shooting a music video is probably fun for a lot of artists. And with AI the result is not predictable and might be inconsistent in the dumbest ways.

My guess is that an AI music video would have to be a lot cheaper for artists to consider it outside of making one just because you want to make an AI music video.

Microsoft just wants to avoid press of kids getting groomed or seeing adult content on Minecraft servers. Stuff like this is bad for a brand that primarily targets kids as new players and could get them into hot water with regulators.

I personally believe that they probably should add parental controls to Minecraft so parents can control what if and what kind of servers kids can join. I also believe more control will put more scrutiny on Microsoft since I haven't a lot of negative press about child safety in Minecraft especially in comparison with Roblox for example.

You probably won't enjoy it because it's a sim game and not fun in the same way Super Mario Bros is. But it's probably more interactive than Mixtape since you are operating a train.

I personally probably won't play Mixtape or this game but both look like good experiences to me if you are in the respective target audience.

You don’t really need it but it is nice when downloads are really fast. Though most services cap downloads at 2 - 3 Gbit/s.

Their audience are no longer the people in the room. The audience is the people watching the video or livestream which is great because that means you don't need thousands of dollars and an invite to go to WWDC.

I mean even if it is marketing for them they still did the work and developed these features. I had some vision issues recently and was glad there were options to make text more legible to me.

Additionally I don't believe this is just marketing. This is adaption to a changing market. Apple's customer base is aging and having these kinds of features will allow them to keep using Apple products for a longer.

It is not. I have some issues with my eyesight and dark mode makes it easier to use a computer in some lighting conditions. So for me dark mode is an accessibility feature. And yes you could use the ugly recolor feature windows has but dark mode does the same thing and looks better most of the time cause a UI designer actually looked at it.

It's Fedora 43 and I ran into the exact same issue. The other issue I have is that I don't have any display output as soon as I install my graphics card drivers. So using Linux on my desktop is put on hold for now.

In Switzerland a digital identity like this will launch this summer and the underlying infrastructure and app is open source. And the issuer of the ID and the registry that holds and verifies credentials are separated. The protocol also isn't novel and is already used in other countries (Germany(?)).

The work on Proton ends up in wine which is available for macOS and is part of Apples game porting toolkit. So part of the work Valve is doing to make games run on Linux helps games run better on macOS.

While Apple probably makes most of their gaming revenue from gacha they fund a surprising number of non gambling games for their Apple Arcade subscription.

The digital ID in Switzerland [1] is literally the best case scenario from a privacy standpoint. It is basically an ID that is stored on your phone that can send a signed copy of your data to someone verifying it. But instead of sharing all your data everytime it can also only share part of your data or only verify that you are above a certain age.

I personally prefer this to sending a copy of your ID and a video with my face to someone verifying service provider that verifies my identity for a bank or some website.

At least you can use your ID. If you want to get a code signing certificate for Microsoft at least in Switzerland all the CAs I tried using required me to be incorporated. I'm not sure how it is now but at least a few years ago I couldn't get a code signing certificate as an individual.

That's not easier and cheaper than before. That's how it's always been only now you can buy the cert through Azure.

For an individual the Apple code signing process is a lot easier and more accessible since I couldn't buy a code signing certificate for Windows without being registered as a business.

Also if you get flashbanged by SDR content on Windows 11 there is a slider in HDR settings that lets you turn down the brightness of SDR content. I didn't know about this at first and had HDR disable because of this for a long time.

Because Unifi is more focused on the needs of businesses and enthusiasts. AVM and Netgear Orbi are products for the consumer market. So they miss a the advanced features Unifi supports.

Unifi is used by the tech-savvy homeowner that needs PoE for their security cameras and wants to control and configure their network without needing a network engineer.

They're also fiercly opposed to not having an open border, both for people and goods, with their EU neighbours.

Switzerland is part of schengen and has open borders. The same goes for a lot of goods but even between EU members there are some tariffs for certain goods.

The current supercomputer was AUD 50m [1] and HP seems to have won a few expansion and other contracts for another AUD 50 - 70 million for the next few years. Which are all reasonable.

But it seems like the budget for the software was anything else than reasonable and has crazy budget overruns...

I just looked up the cost of the recent redesign of the weather service in my small country of Switzerland. And I don't think more than 10 times the cost can be explained by the size of the country.

The redesign of the website of the website of the weather service in my small country cost about $6-7 million and the project planning was $600'000. It seems like they hired the same company that did the previous website which makes sense since they spent the previous 10 years keeping it running.

So according to this article [1] the hundred million is for the renewal of the whole infrastructure including the supercomputer calculating the weather model. If this is true the supercomputer alone costs at least $10 - 20 million. This would make the cost a whole lot more reasonable.
