Well, they also still bought CD's they liked back then. Usually their favourite bands, or whatever. Even in the Napster/LimeWire days when everyone was doing it they always still seemed to buy their favourite artist's new CD's when they came out.

Yeah, I need a phone that can run Apple's GarageBand, (easily my most-used app; hundreds and hundreds of hours, and as I use Logic to create music at home and have for 15+ years, I can open up these iPhone-created files at home, establishing a workflow Ableton, for instance, has completely failed to replicate) - ideally uses iMessage so I can more easily communicate with my romantic partners who both use it; and can run a browser of my choice. I'd also like it to work with my Apple Watch. Any non-iPhone recommendations?

Strange, on my M2 MacBook Pro this still absolutely crawls. I thought it was my personal (intel) MacBook Pro, but it's still extremely slow on my M2. Looks amazing, but definitely requires a massive performance improvement before it's useful. Keep at it! :)

I wasn’t attractive or athletic in high school, I spent all my time obsessed with programming, from basically grade 5 onwards; it didn’t make me popular and I not only didn’t fit in but was regularly bullied.

It’s turned into a fantastic career and the resilience I gained from being bullied made me a stronger and kinder person growing up.

Wouldn’t wish it on anyone, but long term I would say it personally did not harm me.

Couldn’t this application theoretically support MIDI input? I haven’t looked to see if it does, but if it does; velocity is a simple enough feature to implement with even just a simple volume curve.

One of my biggest pet peeves that frustrate me more about Open Source projects is this bizarre tendency not to put screenshots in the main description; especially for projects that are mainly UI/UX-based.

I realize there's a demo, but what if I'm on mobile and I'm just curious as to what the project looks like; or what if I just want to see what it looks like before I try it out?

Is it a nerd thing, where we're just kind of wrapped up so far in our own projects that we forget such a basic thing? Why does this happen so often? Genuinely asking.

Once you get that going, there’s a Bluetooth patch for PS4 controllers, IIRC. :)

Absolutely bizarre. My experience in Toronto buying an Apple Watch on an extremely busy day was 5-10min in and out and there was no attempt to ‘fit’ me.

Told them what they wanted, they went back and got it, they brought a POS so I could pay, I was easily out of there in 10min.

Never had any issues like this whatsoever in more than a decade of shopping at these stores?

I'd like to recommend this - I had to learn SwiftUI recently for my work and I found these courses to be absolutely perfect for learning.

I've also found SwiftUI to be a fantastic little language, I think especially for prototyping it would be fantastic.

One thing I preferred with these courses to so many similar other courses is that the video is not required. I much prefer to read, I don't like videos in tutorials unless completely necessary - screenshots and text work just fine, and for myself; these exercises just hit the nail on the head. :)

This. Back in the day when we lacked RAM, especially on *nix based systems, it's absolutely normal to use the disk/flash as pseudo-RAM. This was just...a normal part of computing at the time, heh.

My first thought as soon as I saw the title. It is the name of a Dreamcast emulator, however; as far as I know it is mainly free and offers some sort of cheap upgrade for certain features.

Once again; the media companies are absolutely doing everything in their power to drive even casual media consumers into piracy. I wouldn't be surprised if piracy was already more rampant than it's ever been - but it's only getting worse, due to ludicrous streaming fragmentation.

It'll never happen, but the only thing that can save piracy is an aggregate all-inclusive monthly subscription platform where all the films/shows from all services are available, just like Apple Music or Spotify. I pay $30-40/mo and I have access to all the stuff on Netflix, Prime, Max, Disney...

When you stream a movie from Netflix, they get the credit. Disney? The same.

Nobody is going to pay for all these services, and more and more are ditching them altogether. The response of the streaming services is to increase prices and reduce content. It's hilariously embarrassing. They are asking us to pirate.

A small printer, though; would turn it from a novelty into something you could e.g. install in a store you owned, and even if you just charged a buck a go it could still be a fun draw.

Got me thinking now what a tiny printing solution like that would/could look like!

EDIT: unsurprisingly, there’s a bunch of iOS/iPadOS solutions. You could theoretically base it off a custom app on an iPad with one of these iThing printers stuffed away and use Square as a POS?

Honestly - Nintendo is the pettiest and shittiest to its incredibly passionate fan base.

Where SEGA hires people who have created great fan content, for instance; Nintendo sends out C&D’s.

Nintendo shut off their own revenue stream by closing the 3DS store.

That was their choice. They could still be making at least a bit of money from the 3DS store, but they chose not to.

So…punish the homebrew devs for their own stupid decision? I have never been able to understand Nintendo’s behaviour, especially having grown up in the ROM hacking and fan gaming scene where SEGA and Nintendo could not be more parallel opposites.

Nintendo is the textbook definition of petty with their copyright. It’s honestly brutal and disappointing. I much prefer SEGA’s strategy, even if they’re not perfect, either.

My God, me; too. Never - ever - could understand why Apple wouldn’t just sell the watch as a potentially standalone device.

I know, it’s Apple; but at the same time, you’re easily going to sell 2-3 times more of them, and; like the iPod, it can easily introduce them to the Apple ecosystem and when it comes time to buy a new phone; they’ll maybe say ‘well, I’ve already got an Apple Watch and really like it…maybe I’ll get an iPhone this time my contract expires.’

But it’s Apple business logic. I’ve used their products pretty much exclusively for nearly 20 years (I’m an iOS/WatchOS dev and have used Logic to make music for 15 years) but I’ll never understand many of their decisions.
