On this matter I'm not searching for excuses, I am reserving my judgement; all we have is a tweet with the counterexample. We don't know how the counterexample was built nor found. It's just not useful to speculate.

In mathematics (including information science, CS) there are all sorts of problems that are essentially searches for a solution, and many have the property that the search is computationally difficult, but verifying the solution is relatively cheap. E.g. finding integers such that a^2 + b^2 = c^2 isn't easy, but given a claim that some proposed <a, b, c> satisfies this equation is easy to check. The LLM is like that: it solves a search problem that can be fairly hard.
Funnily enough, one of the attempted solves in the litterature is exploring the problem space in two-dimensional space; the LLM found one in three-dimensional space.
So far we know very little as to why and how it found the solution.
It may very well have been directed to brute force 3D space, or even "elected" to" by expanding the known-failed 2D approach to 3D as pure mimicry.
It does so unreliably, but if you can cheaply verify the solution, there is a win there.
This circles back to what the LLM advocates are pushing for: build the harness that keeps the agent in check, guardrails all the way because it's driving like a demolition derby.
Conversely, I am counting 6 persons (7 when including myself) in my direct close circle that do not upgrade because there is no Mini on the Apple lineup.
I'm not counting people that did upgrade but are spiteful of the forced size increase.
And it is indeed smaller than most smartphones. Apple never made a small smartphone

This "just" seems to hint that you don't seem to quite be grasping the concepts and scale at hand:
- Assuming perfect efficiency and unlimited free energy, where would you even put the heat from outside?
- Since energy is neither free nor unlimited, the energy needs would be enormous+
- Since it is not perfectly efficient and the energy needs are so high, the amount of wasted energy (which is heat) would be colossal, and only make the problem worse
+ The heat causing global warming comes not from human activity but from the sun, the anthropogenic effect at play is that this energy from the sun is captured by greenhouse effect.
I've been on SFR and had IPv6 for a decade at this point (through multiple moves and on mobile). It's been absolutely reliable in every way.
One of the huge holdups for v6 deployment was the absorbtion of the then DOCSIS2-based Numericable, which required a huge migration to DOCSIS3 to even support it, as well as integration of the whole network backhaul that came with it.

I literally just read some reports yesterday day about how AC can be a pathological solution.
It's not about the energy being green or not, it's that independently of the energy source AC is a heat pump, so it pumps heat out into the air, which makes the air inside cooler, but hotter outside; and for that, green or not, it needs to put in energy to do the work, which results in _even more heat_.
At scale a.k.a cities this creates measurable bubbles of heat (+1-2degC) around AC'd places.

You can absolutely set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for yourself, it's really not that hard if your difficulty reference point is self hosting email. I did it like 10 years ago and I don't think it has changed.

RAM disk is, like, the brd module on Linux, which allocates and exposes a /dev/ram0 block device.
From the project description this looks like it, exposing a raw block device backed by VRAM (with some trip through the nbd protocol, but that's an implementation detail to have it in userland, it could just as well have been implemented kernel side).
It's just that the usage of this mem-backed block device is different than the thing of yore (copy HD or floppy into RAM)
The more frequent alternative to brd, tmpfs, skips the block device part and does a filesystem directly. I wonder if it could be made so that it's swap directly and skip the block device part entirely like tmpfs.
As a Fastmail user, every time I have to use Gmail for work I'm aggravated by the absolute stupid UX of it which seems to have been thoroughly ruined around the Material Design era; it also seems to be unable to handle basic operations such as mass mark read or delete, or search.
Fastmail handles the same things with aplomb and has much better screen real estate usage, for one.
The only thing I kind of want with Fastmail is if it had some EU-based datacenter.
