MCP is dead? 2 months ago

Oh man - hearing that we’re building MCP’s where there is no CLI makes me super nervous.

It’s one thing to dupe the functionality of your CLI for better agent integration. It’s another to make it the sole method of interface locking everyone into a spec that we may decide we can do better at some point. Then we gotta pay off all the MCP debt and it will be cheaper to just not.

I felt pangs of emotion reading the post so it’s definitely not just you.

I think because GitHub has been such an important part of my life dating back to the very start of my career - just like you.

And it’s not just the technology, it’s the people. All the great projects there. The countless README’s I’ve dissected trying to setup something new. There’s people behind all of that and that always felt exceptionally meaningful to me.

It has been profoundly emotional to watch GitHub degrade over the past year. It’s almost like watching someone you love slip away. Which I have also done. It’s not the same, but there is something familiar in the pain.

Meanwhile streamers dunk on it in YouTube videos and on X and none of it is funny to me. It’s just tragic.

Now I’m choked up. Dammit all to hell.

This is exactly right. It’s crazy to me how easily people get confused and think that corporations are “good” or “evil”.

Anthropic is incredibly good at marketing. They are constantly out talking about how dangerous AI is an even showing how Claude does dangerous thing in their own testing. This is intentional - so that you see them as having the truly powerful AI. in fact it’s so powerful, all they can do is warn you about it.

They knew refusing this contract would make them look like the good guy. Again. They knew OpenAI would sign it. They knew vapid celebrities would celebrate them.

Folks come on. Don’t be so easily taken in. None of these people are good guys. They are all just here to make money and accumulate power and standing. That’s ok. There’s nothing wrong with that. But we gotta stop acting like we’re in some ongoing battle of good vs evil and tech companies are somehow virtuous.

What I don’t understand in these posts is how exactly is the AI checking its work. That’s literally what I’m here for now. It doesn’t know how to log in to my iOS app using the simulator, or navigate to the firebase console and download a plist file.

Once we get to a spot where the AI can check its work and iterate, the loop is closed. But we are a long way off from that atm. Even for the web. I mean, have you tried the Playwright MCP server? Aside from being the slowest tool calls I have ever seen, the agent struggles mightily to figure out the simplest of navigation and interaction.

Yes yes Unit tests, but functional is the be all end all and until it can iterate and create its own functional test suite, I just don’t get it.

What am I missing?

Rob Reiner has died 7 months ago

I had the same thought when I looked up his filmography - highly underrated. No idea he made all those classics.

Same. Cases are like putting shoes on a dog. You can do that, but it looks dumb and the dog will probably be fine without them.

I do think this is true. I'm 46 and I find myself wondering when things are going to "return to normal". But I can't really define what that is besides saying "2019". I'm not even sure what I'm referring to other than I hate short form video. I don't know how I feel about AI. It does seem like something that has a lot of promise though if we can figure out the context issues.

Your point is well made. If someone shoots you in a trailer park or the hood, nobody is launching a nationwide manhunt.

I redact my previous comment but leave it for posterity.

That’s what happens when you commit a crime. It doesn’t matter who you kill or who you are when you do it. If the CEO had killed this guy in the same manner, he’d be facing the same consequences.

This isn’t surprising. It’s also not an indication that women are doing better than men writ large. Most degrees are not worth the investment. A few high performing ones hold the average up. Trades are desperate for workers and have above average pay. Men are much more likely to do those jobs. The risk is that women are going to be left with more debt and will be less employable in the long run.

But for a society that acts like everyone’s worth is wrapped up in whether or not you have a degree, we should be a lot more concerned about this than we are.

Thank you! I appreciate the write up. Do I understand correctly that you do not get a companionship aspect from it? I guess I think of OF as being where you go beyond porn to forming some sort of relationship with the porn star themselves.

Austerity is miserable. It does not win elections. Even if a party bit the bullet, locked in and fixed this mess, they would be handing both the credit for any success and at least the best few future elections to the other party. Our system seems designed to fail from some angles.

Wait - it’s intentionally meant to sound like “space sex” right? I mean, it’s not 1:1 but it’s very close. Say it out loud 10 times.

But maybe possible it’s just all about the letter X for him?

Also, to clarify, I don’t dislike the guy. Nor do I dislike his naming. Just pointing out what I thought was the obvious.
