Hydrophonic farming at home. You can play with sensors (acidity, humidity etc), LED lighting (frequencies, intensity, etc), vision processing (maybe throw in some AI buzzword here) to keep track of your plants and do some decision making.

Bonus: You get to eat the stuff you grow :)

Trump ensured that there is absolutely no reason for any nation, not just Iran, to believe what USA says in the future. No agreements/treaties with the USA can be trusted. And not just with Trump administration, since he demonstrated clearly that he can tear any treaty/agreement that was made under different administrations as well. The United States demonstrated that it has very, very limited control over the actions of an elected president.

Next challange: Place a camera in front of the bike that scans approaching pedestrians. Calculate their head position and trajectory. Use directional speakers and focused sound beams to focus the ~780Hz sound towards the head(s) of the pedestrian(s). Now that you are not bothering the environment as much, you can increase the volume as well.

Isn't this a strange way to put Toyota to be "closer" to Tesla by "enterprise value"? I mean, if toyota had 1T USD debt, it's enterprise value would have been 1.25T, and it would have been more "valuable" than Tesla. But, how is that "better", if you want to invest in a company?

I'm surprised TSLA is in such a good shape, debt-wise.

Sanctions by countries who developed a certain technology, appear to always result in the country which was sanctioned to develop that technology in some timeframe, depending on the complexity.

Was there any case of a "successful" sanction in history? Or is holding back a country for a few years (or decades depending on the tech) considered a success?

The general consensus seems to be that low income and low skill workers will be affected real soon.

I don't know where we currently are in the hockey stick curve in ML/AI development, but if it keeps developing at this pace it will soon start hitting high-skill and high-income workers, and then we're going to have a huge economic problem.

I've read all the comments and looks like no one has mentioned this, but as someone who worked a total of ~25 years, on both continents (10+15 years), I have the following observation, and it really is a simple one:

American hardware/software engineers work really, really hard, compared to their European counterparts.

Given identical goals, same level of funding, same underlying tech, and similar market size, a US startup will almost always be more successful then its European counterpart, simply because of the difference of total amount of work done in a given month/year.

I've worked with outstanding people in both continents. Top-notch, impressive engineers. I can easily say, the output of my US colleagues were significantly higher.

What's fascinating about airplane design for me is not the huge technical complexity, but rather, the way it is designed such that a lot of its subsystems are serviceable by technicians so quickly and reliably, not just in a fully controlled environment like a maintenance hangar, but right on the tarmac, waiting for takeoff.

Given sufficient road width, takeoff/landing length, and road "quality" (smoothness, etc), why wouldn't an aircraft be able to takeoff from and land on to a highway? I mean, what is the actual significance of this?

Just recently we had a OUI chip which was being used in one of our boards, which was throwing off our post-production automated tests. Turns out the vendor added a new OUI, but didn't update all the references to its datasheets on their website. Took us a while to figure out what the problem was.

Just as a reminder, in 2021 there were close to 250 million estimated malaria cases worldwide, with an estimated ~600.000 deaths according to WHO, so it is very much a concern for the world even though it was eradicated in the USA

A few months ago, I made an offer of $100 in one of the freelancing websites, for someone to set-up something like your configuration on one of my Digital Ocean instances. I asked for a few more apps to be installed (git, svn, etc). There were no takers :-)

I think a web site/service which lets you choose "apps" and spawns a VPS instance would be very useful and profitable (Think "ninite for VPS"). I started to work on this but never had the time to continue. With an Ansible/Chef/Puppet recipe, this should be relatively easy to do.

There are ~600 delivered MAX aircraft, and ~4700 still on order (including all the cancelled orders).

I don't know where you live and how often you fly and for what purpose, but, chances are, a lot of people be somewhat forced to fly on a 737 Max eventually.

What you say is somewhat surprising to me. I would imagine the total flow of components would be similar, but would be concentrated to certain destinations/buyers.

If cross-border trade of chips are actually in the decline, that suggests the components are being manufactured in lower quantities (highly unlikely), or they are staying close to and being consumed by (or, maybe hoarded and stocked at) where they are being manufactured.

The entire electronics supply chain is currently a shit show and this post explained it perfectly. Other anecdotes from our experiences:

- Chipmaker/Distributor quotes 36 weeks for the parts, we arrange all shipments of all components to the factory based on that date since that part had the longest lead time (~80 unique part numbers in product). 4 weeks later, parts arrive at factory!. We have to wait for all other components for another 32 weeks. Manufacturer does not understand why we're mad since they shipped early!

- Distributor accepts order for a 10ppm MEMS oscillator. After 6 months of silence, we contact the manufacturer directly and they confirm that 10ppm parts will not be manufactured for at least another year since they are prioritizing 50ppm parts.

- Microcontroller manufacturer quotes ~2 years(!) for a part. The brokers have it in stock, and quote approximately 20 times the usual pricing (with a date code of 2021 to rub it in!)

- FPGA manufacturer accepts order for 500pcs, with a lead time of 48 weeks (ok!). After 30 weeks, manufacturer increases pricing for 20% for all orders, including open, active orders. They offer us to cancel the order if we want!

- Analog IC manufacturer announces that they will increase pricing of all products, including all open and active orders, but they can not tell how much of an increase it will be until..... until they are ready to announce I suppose.

- Chip manufacturer sells a chip through its own web page only. Part is currently not defined in any distributors so you have to use their web site. Chip is currently not in stock. However, their order system does not accept back-orders(?!). You have to check back "often" to catch the exact moment when this chip becomes available.
