True, but the extra smarts were more of an inconvenience rather than a big issue. The standalone part was useful - we needed to keep the number of parts (therefore the points of failure) low. For instance Unity made it super easy to build simple video loop and not having to worry too much about the FPV settings of a display and the built in battery worked to keep it portable.

What do you think of making it a spaced repetition-esque system where you treat hitting the snooze button repeatedly as a back off signal?

About a decade back Bret Victor [1] talked about how his principle in life is to reduce the delay in feedback, and having faster iteration cycles not just helps in doing things (coding) better but also contributes to new creative insights. He had a bunch of examples built to showcase alternative ways of coding, which is very close to being HUDs - one example shown in the OP is very similar to the one he presents to "step through time to figure out the working of the code".

I get the arguments in the abstract sense, you want the tool to be background, maximum focus spent in flow. But in my experience I’m rarely chugging out multiple WPM constant typing. This is as a software engineer coding on Python predominantly. Plus the advent of CoPilots along with autocomplete IDEs I am not even typing as much as before. Granted, I am spending less time looking at the keyboard because I have the key sequences imprinted in my head now, and that feels nice.

The blocker in flow is rarely the time I spend pecking out keys. So what am I missing, how much is it truly worth it?

This is lovely. I maintain a dev log at work where I manually time-stamp entries section wise, but many times I’m doing it after the fact. Ability to edit the time stamps and then search based on it would make this super powered.

Actually, I would love to combine this with Heynote[0], have you considered it?

Ha, I have a running bet with a friend that it is inevitable that there is going to be model soon that is trained to do the inverse, predict the prompt from an image.

There’s a very rich labelled dataset out there now.

When people bring up static site generators as an alternative I have rarely seen CMS being part of it. For a developer always with access to an editor and terminal, sure, it is easy to push out that markdown file and have it rendered as a blog post.

But if you want to edit on the go, connecting your setup to a CMS is epic. I now have Forestry linked to my Github+Jekyll blog and don't have to worry about having access to a terminal to blog.

It does seem to clog up the commit history though, something to figure out soon...

Love the idea. The editor has rich text capabilities which is not apparent from the sparse interface, should highlight that (not sure how).

What I did miss is the final step of the process, where is the blog hosted. On your subdomain? Do I have to connect my domain? It is not apparent from the website, I had to go into the settings of the app to figure it out.

Nextcloud should satisfy all your needs I think.
