I struggle with getting exertion headaches whenever my heart rate goes over 170 bpm for more than a minute or two. It's incredibly frustrating to have to hold back and moderate my physical activity, knowing that if I don't I'll have a rather debilitating headache for the rest of the day and potentially into the next day.

I do get a lot of exercise, but I keep it in the lower zones to avoid this complication and I still feel like I get such a great mood boost and improvements to my cognitive abilities wrt to work.

Kraken's offers are not affected by geography in any way. The are engineering salary bands are completely agnostic of region.

For engineering/product etc. that's the case. Doesn't matter if you move from San Francisco to Thailand or some other low cost of living area, your pay remains the same.

Kraken has a few thousand employees, has been a remote first company for a decade, and pays the same no matter where you live.

The only thing that comes to mind here is that there was a fee spike [1] and they've got too many unspents stuck in the mempool and can't initiate further withdrawals because their wallet is effectively "spent" until those pending transactions complete and they receive their change. I find this a bit hard to believe though...wallet management isn't simple when it comes to the scale that Binance handles, however I'd be shocked if they didn't have code written to trigger CPFP (Child Pays For Parent) [2].

Bitcoin alone is worth over 1T, so your statement that all of crypto is worth less than 1T is a bit silly. The goal posts keep moving for crypto...next year it'll be that crypto is worth less than 5T, etc.

I looked at the NYSE daily volumes...unless I'm reading them wrong, they did $800m USD worth of trades today. Coinbase did $5b USD worth of trades today. So if you compare a company that's almost 200 years olds volume against a 9 year old company, and find that the startup is doing more than 5 times the volume of the incumbent (with zero lock in, since clients are free to trade cryptos on any exchange), then I'd say your comparison is actually a ringing endorsement for Coinbase.

I took my first stab at designing and having my own PCB manufactured for a mechanical clock I'm trying to build. At the moment I'm currently stuck trying to debug the 7 x MCP23017 devices on my I2C bus. I picked up an oscilliscope and added a level converted between the RPi and my PCB, but I feel pretty lost as I'm a complete novice and have no formal background in electronics. This article provides a lot of useful information for someone like me! Online all you usually get are single MCP23017 implementations, nothing too complex.

What service would the HN folks recommend for someone who needs to run a few dozen different docker services that require persistent storage? It would be nice to just have a pool of compute resources tied to persistent storage and be able to spin up docker instances at will. K8's has been suggested as the correct solution but it sounds like a lot of overhead for services that require no scaling at all.

According to wikipedia, the global FX market alone accounts for $5.09 trillion dollars per day in transactions [0] in 2016. Global GDP clocked in at $75.4 trillion U.S. dollars in 2016 [1]. The FX market alone accounts for two orders of magnitude more transfers of value than global GDP...I'm sure if we started including stocks, futures, options, etc. the number would be even higher.

The Capital One card I have is 2% back on everything in the form of travel rewards. Any purchase that is categorized as travel (taxis/ride share, flights, hotels, touristy purchases) can be instantly redeemed at the 2% rate even if you don't have enough points to erase the entire purchase. Purchases can be erased up 90 days after they happen.

If you want straight cash it's 1.5%.

It's unfortunate (and likely economically sensible) that most cloud providers dont offer Power hardware. Running Oracle on Power systems is probably the only reason anyone still runs AIX these days, nd many orgs haven't gone to the cloud because of huge Power/AIX footprints. Even without a ULA in play, licensing on Power systems is significantly more attractive than running on Intel when it comes to Oracle.

How does Mapbox stack up against what you've built? Does Mapbox provide any advantages or is are the two not very comparable? How difficult would it be to spin up a Mapbox competitor?

$150 per hour is on the low end for good SAP consultants. We were paying $300 per hour for some InfoSys SAP HANA people, and even independents were around $200+.

If they're doing anything beyond vanilla consulting work with SAP then I doubt they're using cheaper offshore talent. Or maybe they are and that's why this project has failed so spectacularly. (Note: I'm not saying all offshore talent is hot garbage, I'm saying the cheap talent is hot garbage, especially SAP consultants).

I would argue there's value beyond distributed trust: smart contracts (though you could argue that this is merely an application built upon the concept of distributed trust), the tokenization of physical assets (think real estate, oil and gas exploration/drilling/royalties, etc.), and more generally the ability for money to become a "product". These are all domains that blockchain is enabling, though it remains to be seen whether these problems/opportunities are solved via blockchain or not.
