I had similar improvements without fasting and without keto. I do 16:8 on some days but it's mostly to help me manage my weight. I strongly believe most of the fasting benefits come from the fact that it makes managing weight easier. Calorie restriction and tracking my macros has helped me tremendously not only loosing weight but also understanding nutrition and what works for me and what doesn't. I am a 40 year old Software Engineer and fitter and stronger than I have ever been.

I do quite a bit of high intensity cardio (cycling) + weight training and my recovery and peak performance suffered a lot when I tried keto for a few weeks, it also tanked my hormone levels. I still focus my carb intake on times around training but generally don't restrict.

I had the same issues with a 2019 16" MBP. Annoying fans as soon as I connected an external display, getting very hot, okay performance. Switched to a M1 Pro 14" and couldn't be happier, as far as work laptops go it's the best I ever used since switching to macs in 2009.

the more you do it, the more your body will adapt and then after smaller workouts, say a 30min run in the morning, you will start feeling energized instead of tired, as your time to tire yourself out increases over time. I have to say that I kinda like the feeling of achievement afterwards and also like feeling sore and tired for some reason. That's also the only time when I allow myself unhealthy food nowadays and don't even feel bad about it. I lost 10kg and am fitter at 40 then ever before.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one, it's a bit sad to know that there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it.

Not sure you should see it so negatively/defeatist. Maybe you just have not found the right thing yet that gives you joy. I discovered my love for road cycling only in my mid thirties and now derive immense pleasure from long rides totally exerting myself and burning 2000+ calories in many of those rides. Lost 10kg of weight and am fitter at 40 then I ever was before.

Yeah the classic argument, but at some point every internet connection becomes a shared medium. It really depends on how the network is setup and where the fibre backhauls start. If the building has older wiring which can only support 1Gbps and you have a bunch of high bandwidth users, then yes it can affect your bandwidth more than using other technologies.

Gigabit internet is quite widely available through different cable providers in Germany nowadays. Also the country side seems to be moving up, the very rural place where I grew up (and where my mom still lives) had a max of 2Mbps DSL for the last 20(!) years and now the whole area is being upgraded to fibre and will enjoy 10/1Gbps by the end of the year!

hm I think the industry was stale for quite some time but lately it has picked up a lot. What exactly are you looking for? Today you have high refresh rates,4k or 5k screens, (curved) Ultrawide, Variable Refresh rates, low latencies. Comparing them with TVs is not entirely fair, as those usually are not great for displaying text unless you get a specific panel with good chroma subsampling and in terms of latency TVs are usually also pretty far behind Monitors. The really good TVs are equally as expensive.

Well, chrome could certainly use more threads for all your tabs which might make it even more of a resource hog but probably also run faster. Software Engineering will evolve too, like we have seen in game development over the last decade. While 10 years ago most game engines were hardly using let alone optimized for multicore systems, nowadays the modern engines very much benefit from more cores and I guess the modern OSes also benefit from having more threads to put processes on.

yeah but let's how fast we have those "normal" prices again, maybe this is the new normal, who knows.

it's not a consumer product, video editors can utilize multiple streams of video in many usecases. The iMac and the Macbook Air are the consumer products with enough performance for 99% of users.

The thing with food science is that not every human is the same and people react differently to different things. Some people may thrive on a high fat diet, other might tolerate or even need more carbs, it really depends and isn't black and white. Thats why it's important to look at the sample size of studies among other factors.

Keep in mind that it’s running in real-time on a gaming console which is on the market for a year already. That makes it very impressive imo.

4k120 is not really the standard in anyway. The newest gen of consoles do 4k30 or lower with dynamic resolution adjustments to reach 60fps in some games. Yes HDMI 2.0 supports 4k120 but no modern system can reach that in a modern graphically intensive game. 1080p60-144 or 1440p60-144 is still what the majority of gamers play at, especially on consoles. I think high res displays on smartphones and then laptops and TVs have ultimately driven this from the industry side, but most gamers still don’t care that much about 4K and there is probably not much coming after it because even now it’s hard to make out the differences in fast moving environments unless you sit really close to your big 4K TV.

I bought a used Vega56 in 2019 for 180 Eur and just sold it for over 600, got a used 2070S for that money. Thankfully CPU prices etc seemed quite ok so I finally upgraded to a Ryzen system with a somewhat up to date GPU. Had no issues with out of stock parts though, bought Motherboard, CPU, RAM, SSD new for reasonable prices.

they listened to customers and reverted a lot of bad decisions from the past. What else do you want? That they admit they made bad decisions in what is essentially a sales event/pitch? This is more than anyone could have hoped for imo.

I don't agree, especially due to massive media coverage around these issues even my mom who knows nothing about tech is very hesitant to sign up with new services and existing ones changing policies and what not. Not everyone understands the privacy issues deeply, but they are at least aware and in many cases more careful than say 5 years ago.

I love road cycling but also weight lifting and other stuff. You can perfectly use Zwift just as an indoor fitness trainer. Yes you need a trainer and a used bike that is comfortable for you but a peloton isn’t cheap either and I can stow away my Zwift setup except for the bike of course.

Unfortunately doesn’t work for me. I have (self diagnosed) what is called raynaud syndrome where my body sends a signal to immediately draw the blood out of the hands when it’s very cold. They literally turn white. I need to cycle really hard and stop for a couple of minutes so that there is less cold airflow to get them back and usually they get cold again over longer rides. This is only a problem at below say 5-6 degrees but it’s very annoying.
